    The Opportunity

    S.T. Cotter Turbine Services, Inc., a Fox Innovation & Technologies company, is seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Shop Assistant to manage inbound and outbound logistics, inventory control, material handling, maintenance, and equipment operation. The Shop Assistant will play a critical role in ensuring the site runs efficiently, safely, and in alignment with company standards and schedules.

    Responsibilities

    • Inventory tool sets upon arrival; verify counts; record all part numbers; clean, paint, remark, and perform preventive maintenance.
    • Load and unload tools for jobs; photograph and document outbound inventory prior to shipment.
    • Prepare bills of lading for outbound tools; reconcile returning tools against the original bill of lading.
    • Update inventory changes in Excel.
    • Repair tools; reference supplier warranties; prioritize work to meet shipping deadlines; proactively use downtime to anticipate repair needs.
    • Quote, price-check, and confirm ship dates to replace missing/broken tools or order new sets.
    • Coordinate all tooling shipments to and from job sites with project managers, including outages for tool repair.
    • Schedule trucking for tools arriving at and returning to the shop.
    • Calibrate and inspect in-house tools (e.g., outside micrometers, rigging, harnesses); tag items pass or fail; schedule required calibrations, including outsourced items (e.g., HYTORC tools, torque wrenches, specialized rigging).
    • Work with project managers and site supervision to finalize expendables lists three weeks prior to job start; adjust inventory lists and order remaining needs.
    • Verify packing lists against purchase orders.
    • Maintain contact with job sites to resolve tooling or equipment needs promptly.
    • Pick up and deliver tooling as needed.
    • Assist millwrights in the shop (assembly/disassembly, tooling, expendables).
    • Fabricate and repair toolboxes; perform sandblasting, welding, and grinding.
    • Perform building maintenance, including drywall/patching, painting, hanging curtains, septic system tasks, lawn care, snow removal, and general upkeep.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Valid driver’s license without restrictions and ability to travel to job sites is required.
    • Ability to obtain DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) for commercial drivers.
    • Prior experience in industrial or manufacturing environments (e.g., metal or wood shop).
    • Mechanical aptitude; familiarity with hand tools; ability to read and interpret blueprints.
    • Effective English communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Strong interpersonal skills; able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, customers, vendors, and the public.
    • Basic computer skills with the ability to work in Microsoft Office products.
    • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
    • Available for on-call assignments and emergencies.
    • Comfortable working at elevated heights.

    • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects; may periodically be required to perform very heavy work (exerting more than 100 pounds of force).
    • Industrial environment with frequent travel between facilities.
    • Ability to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking; pushing/pulling; lifting; grasping; feeling; talking; hearing; seeing; and repetitive motions.
    • Requires operation of industrial equipment.
    • Occasional extended hours based on operational or customer needs.

    Benefits

    Health insurance for the employee and eligible dependents begins on the first day of the month following the employee’s start date with premiums paid 100% by the company. PTO accrues weekly at 80 hours per year beginning on the first day of employment and is available after completion of a 60-day probationary period; up to 120 hours may carry over into the next calendar year. After 90 days of employment, the employee is eligible for the 401(k) plan with a company match of 100% on the first 3% of compensation contributed and 50% on the next 2%.
