    About the team

    Part of Shopify’s growing Legal team, the Corporate team provides the essential infrastructure to support Shopify’s business in powering the millions of merchants on our platform Our work involves a mix of corporate and securities law, policy, and compliance and is always evolving. Working on this team will mean breaking ground on organization as the team and company scales for the future.

    About You

    Our Corporate Legal Team is looking for a Legal Assistant who has strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and experience with a variety of administrative tasks.  

    Success on the Shopify Legal team requires intellect, humility and a sense of humour. You need to take the work seriously, but not take yourself too seriously. You also need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, able to work with many different types of personalities, really connect with people, and work as a team player. Above all, you must have grit: the ability to persevere in the face of adversity, deal with being challenged, and come through the other side stronger and with your optimism intact, ready to do it all over again.

    Here’s what will keep you busy:

    • Coordinating signatures on a variety of corporate documents for all of Shopify’s entities on behalf of the Corporate Legal team using Docusign
    • International mail review and coordination for international subsidiaries
    • Filing, indexing and organizing corporate files using G Suite and Box
    • Updating electronic minute books
    • Data entry, maintenance and document uploads on Shopify’s entity management system, Athennian
    • Scheduling meetings
    • Arranging for couriers
    • Proofreading documents
    • Document revisions and blacklines
    • Arranging for notarization and legalization of documents as required
    • Monitoring email inboxes and Slack channels and coordinating related tasks as required
    • Supporting and managing other projects within the Legal Team as they arise
    • Communicating with the Legal Team’s internal business clients in support of all of the above
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Here’s what you will bring:

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in corporate or securities legal administration either at an in-house legal department or at a law firm
    • Incredible organizational, time management, observation and interpersonal skills
    • A hunger to learn, be resourceful, and be genuinely curious about the way things work
    • Meticulous attention to detail
    • Exceptional communication skills and know how to keep everyone and everything organized  
    • A solutions-oriented mindset to help support the business, take on work, and help the team
    • The ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders to champion better, faster and simpler ways of doing things
    • A track record of knowing how to manage multiple (and often competing) priorities
    • Enjoy delving into existing processes to figure out what’s working and what could work better, and then make it happen
    • A deep interest in learning about Shopify’s products and business objectives, and a true interest in making commerce better for everyone
    • A  “no task too big, no task too small” mentality, and fondness for collaborating with a team at all levels

     

    Bonus experience:

    • Experience in a data driven and entrepreneurial environment
    • Experience setting up new systems and workflows
    • Experience with G Suite and entity management software
