    Job Description:

    SUMMARY: Responsible for evaluating the nutritional needs of the customers in the Center; advises Administration and Dietary Manager as needed on all clinical aspects of the Dietary Department; and consults on operational aspects as requested. This position requirements result in an OSHA Exposure Control Category II placements. 

    Responsibilities:

    • • Responsible for the planning and implementation of the nutrition care of the patients in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards and regulations, clinical guidelines, and policies and procedures. 

    • Routinely visit the Center - the frequency to be determined by the complexity of the nutritional program with guidance from the Director of Food Service Operations and Administrator.

    • Assess and/or review the nutritional status of customers inclusive of:

    • Lab value interpretation

    • consumption patterns

    • weight maintenance

    • food/drug interactions

    • dietary compliance

    • customer independence

    • overall customer well-being Assessments are done initially on new admissions, annually, and as needed for, specific nutrition care problems. Assessments should include recommended intervention and appropriate dialogue to the respective Care Team members.

    • Ensures appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record using the User Defined Assessment (UDA) or multi-disciplinary progress notes on nutritional assessments and recommended intervention in the customer chart and/or care plan.

    • Reviews the documentation of others regarding nutrition concerns and responds appropriately. 

    • Reviews menu changes and documentation of reason for change.

    • Maintains two-way communication with Center Administrator, Dietary Manager, and Nursing Services, as well as Director of Food Service Operations.

    • Submit written reports of visits to Center Administrator and Clinical Risk Manager. These reports should be a brief synopsis of the visit activities 

    • Assist with reviews of customer care plans prior to customer care conferences and following care conferences and advises regarding nutritional concerns.

    • Addresses appropriate nutritional concerns with all members of the nutrition management team inclusive of the Dietary Manager, Nursing Services, Pharmacy Consultant, Speech and Occupational Therapist, Physician and others. Communicates recommendations and follows up with appropriate, designated personnel. Diet Instruction for specific customers or out patients

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s or higher degree with completion of the academic requirements of a program in nutrition or dietetics accredited by an appropriate national accreditation organization recognized for this purpose.
    • Has completed at least 900 hours of supervised dietetics practice under the supervision of a registered dietitian or nutrition professional.
    • Current Florida Licensure as a Registered Dietitian or Nutritionist in effect.
    • Experience with geriatric population preferred but not necessary.
    • Thorough knowledge of theory and practice of dietetics and nutrition including nutritional requirements of individuals of varying ages; special diet requirements in a wide range of diseases; and principles of food production and services. Dietitians must be well informed on nutritional advancements inclusive of TPN management, and enteral nutrition management, and other geriatric malnutrition manifestations in addition to wellness programs.
    • Thorough knowledge of all regulatory agency health codes and requirements.
