    The Show Systems Designer is a key leadership role at Memoir Agency LLC (“Memoir”), responsible for defining the technical systems that power Memoir’s shows and programmed experiences.

    This role translates creative visions into robust systems through hardware, software, infrastructure, and other control solutions that enable audio-visual elements to operate seamlessly. They will determine all necessary technology for self-contained programmed activations, dynamic live shows, and other immersive project elements, ensuring integrated solutions that support and enhance detailed world-building within each project. This role plays a critical role in commissioning show systems, validating readiness, and supporting the transition to on-site show leadership. Depending on projects assigned, this work will require travel for up to 35% of the time for system commissioning and other site related assignments.

    The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of currently available technologies within themed entertainment and other adjacent fields and be able to confidently and independently identify solutions to achieve designated creative scopes.

    Core Responsibilities

    _ Technical Analysis & Scope Development_

    • Performs initial technical analysis of creative direction to clearly outline show scope, identifying necessary system requirements, constraints, integration challenges, and risks.
    • Produces and refines the technical scope throughout the creative process, updating resources, infrastructure, and technical requirements to execute each project as it evolves.
    • Develops technical production plans for each show, including audio layouts, site lighting maps, controls, infrastructure needs and required hardware components.
    • Assesses the power and infrastructure requirements for individual assets and site wide deployment, assisting in the creation of technical documentation and installation plans.

    _ Show System Architecture & Design_

    • Designs and maintains show control, networking, and signal flow architectures to ensure reliable communication between programmed elements, lighting, audio, and effects systems.
    • Develops Memoir standards and best practices in relation to programmed show elements to ensure Memoir’s ability to deliver industry leading technology solutions within our owned events and client services projects
    • Continually advances Memoir’s ability to execute self sustaining and stable programmed activations by vetting new products, including hardware and software, and integrating them into our current tech stacks

    _ Documentation & Process Development_

    • Collaborates with the Lead Technical Designer to integrate show system production plans into clear and concise technical documentation packages.
    • Produces clear documentation for configuration, system behavior, and startup/shutdown expectations to make the handoff to run of show staff as seamless as possible, providing them the tools for show ownership.
    • Develops documentation and internal processes for special effects or other specialty production equipment as necessary to support relevant projects.
    • Establishes long-term maintenance protocols and documentation to support ongoing show operations and asset longevity.

    _ Asset Readiness & Kit Development_

    • Receives, inspects, tests and validates technical assets prior to deployment, or leads Memoir teams in doing so, through direct hands-on involvement or the creation of relevant SOPs.
    • Ensures Memoir’s technical systems and assets are deployment ready for projects, through building procedures, operational testing, and documentation that supports continued execution.
    • Builds, maintains, and improves technical kits for programmed activations and show systems, to ensure all parts needed for a successful installation are included in project packing lists and are installation ready.

    _ Installation, Commissioning & Operations Support_

    • Leads on-site commissioning, calibration, and system validation during load-in and pre-show testing.
    • Ensures specialty systems (effects, automation, power distribution) are installed and operated in compliance with safety standards and venue regulations.
    • Supports operational troubleshooting workflows during a projects lifecycle and coordinates replacements or reorders as needed.
    • Trains run-of-show and site technical teams on system operation, troubleshooting procedures, and escalation workflows.
    • Conducts post-show system reviews, documenting adjustments and recommending improvements for future iterations.

    _ Qualifications & Experience_

    _ Required Qualifications_

    • 7–10+ years of experience in show systems design, creative technology, show control, or technical systems engineering for live events, themed entertainment, immersive experiences, exhibitions, or large-scale installations.
    • Demonstrated ability to translate creative direction into a complete show tech scope: systems requirements, constraints, risks, and resource planning.
    • Proven experience designing system architectures, including signal flow, network topology, and integrated hardware/software environments.
    • Experience with custom show control frameworks or lighting installations, especially those driven by Touch Designer, Mad Mapper, and other similar programs.
    • Working knowledge of core show-control and integration concepts, such as DMX / sACN / Art-Net, OSC, MIDI, timecode, and basic network fundamentals.
    • Proven experience designing and deploying integrated systems across lighting, audio, and programmed show elements, including selecting appropriate hardware + software stacks for reliability and maintainability.
    • Proven understanding of lighting/audio/power concepts and field deployment realities.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and disciplined documentation practices.
    • Ability to create clear startup/shutdown procedures, configuration guides, system behavior descriptions, and handoff materials for on-site run-of-show teams.

    _ Preferred Qualifications_

    • Advanced experience producing comprehensive production books and technical site plan packages.
    • Experience leading on-site commissioning and system validation prior to show opening.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience supervising field teams or technical contractors.
    • High proficiency with Google Workspace and project management tools used in live production environments.
    • Ability to assess and communicate power requirements for show assets to inform technical documentation and field implementation.

    KPIs will be established annually in collaboration with department leadership and may be refined throughout the year to reflect evolving priorities. KPIs may include, but are not limited to:

    • Timely and high-quality technical project delivery
    • Budget adherence and cost control within assigned scope
    • Operational readiness at install and show opening
    • Permitting compliance and documentation accuracy
    • Vendor performance and accountability Season-over-season technical optimization for owned shows
    • Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder satisfaction

    _ Work Environment & Schedule_

    • Full-time role with schedule flexibility based on business needs.
    • Travel of up to approximately 25% may be required depending on project assignments.
    • Evening, weekend, and extended on-site commitments are expected during installation, rehearsals, and operational periods.
    • Work may occur in office, warehouse, venue, and outdoor site environments, including active construction or production settings.
