    Summary:

    Visit Shreveport-Bossier (VSB) seeks an experienced business professional to pilot the creation and implementation of the newly created Destination Development department. This leader will oversee the development and implementation of the organization’s short and long-term strategic plans. This position will work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders to enhance Shreveport-Bossier’s appeal to visitors, improve visitation, increase visitor spending, and promote economic development in our region.

    The ideal candidate will be an established community advocate within the Shreveport-Bossier region that has proven success working with city, government, and local business leaders; also a team-oriented individual that will inspire and lead a team of professionals and contribute to the strengthening of the overall team culture at Visit Shreveport-Bossier.

    Essential Functions/Accountabilities:

    Accountable for leading the development and implementation of the 10-year destination master plan.

    Partner with internal and external stakeholders to execute the destination master plan, including identifying funding opportunities, expanding partnerships, and tracking the progress of the master plan.

    Oversee the destination development team by providing leadership and coaching to ensure employees have the proper training and resources to be successful.

    Assist with the execution of the new brand roll out by engaging key local stakeholders and government leaders across the region.

    Establish partnerships with tourism industry partners, government agencies, and local community organizations to ensure alignment and coordination of destination development initiatives.

    Lead and advocate for visitor centric products and experiences by identifying opportunities for new attractions, events and experiences aligning with community and visitor values.

    Identify and pursue funding opportunities for destination development initiatives, including grants and sponsorships.

    Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for the Bureau at destination development related events.

    Leverage organization’s data and analytics to provide insights for external stakeholders, measure the impact of master plan initiatives, and adjust strategies as needed to meet goals.

    Work closely with the sales and marketing/communications teams to develop strategies that market the region to target groups and expand visitation.

    Collaborate with community stakeholders on the development of programs that support the local community, including workforce development, education, and cultural preservation.

    Develop and manage relationships with industry related associations and organizations, and positively represent the Bureau at local, national, and international events.

    Remain informed on trends and best practices in destination development and provide thought leadership within the organization and the industry.

    Other duties and responsibilities as needed to ensure the ongoing success and positive work environment of the VSB.

    Desired Qualities:

    Four-year degree from an academic institution in Hospitality Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

    Minimum of 10 years of experience in public administration, destination development, tourism, or related field.

    Knowledge of tourism industry trends and best practices, including experience working with key industry partners and stakeholders.

    Passion for travel and tourism, and a deep understanding of what motivates visitors to travel.

    Strong leadership skills and ability to manage a team effectively.

    Proven project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

    Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak in public.

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to use data to inform decision-making.

    Experience working within a database and ability to operate Microsoft Office applications (primarily, but not exclusively in Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams)

    Understanding of annual budget processes.

    Ability to work evenings and weekends, including overnight travel.
