    TITLE: CLINICAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR Department: Patient Care Location: Portland, OR Hours: 1.0 FTE Schedule: M-F

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Shriners Hospitals for Children - Portland is seeking a 1.0 FTE Nurse Educator to join our team! The Nurse Educator works under the direction of the DPCS/NE and in collaboration with the department managers. Demonstrates understanding of the theoretical basis of nursing and serves as a clinical resource and role model within his/her area of expertise. The Nursing Educator continuously engages in environmental scanning to identify opportunities both within and external to the organization in order to achieve the specialty role outcomes of learning, change, professional role growth, and optimal care. The Nursing Educator fulfills his/her organizational functions in the role of learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, and champion for scientific inquiry. The Nurse Educator supports licensed and non-licensed healthcare personnel in on-boarding, orientation, education of on-going competencies, and role development. He/she facilitates collaborative partnerships and promotes and participates in research, evidenced based practice and quality improvement initiatives. The Nurse Educator carries out these responsibilities utilizing the nursing process as applied to the specialty (assessment, learning needs and outcomes identification, planning, implementing, and evaluation). He/she must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the age of the patients served at SHC.

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    · Supports the process of hiring, orienting, socializing, and integrating an employee to the organization with a focus on retention and growth.

    · Facilitates orientation of licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel during onboarding and when changes in roles, responsibilities and practice settings occur.

    · Develops, coordinates, manages, facilitates, conducts and evaluates onboarding and orientation programs for licensed and unlicensed healthcare personnel.

    · Develops activities to achieve specific outcomes related to specific identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge, skills or practice

    · Supports on-going assessment and evaluation of the skills, knowledge, abilities and judgment of licensed and non-licensed healthcare personnel.

    · Measures, documents, and supports competency, and addresses competency deficits in staff members and teams.

    · Partners with individuals, groups and/or organizations to share expertise in planning, decision-making to achieve common goals. Collaborative partnerships may include interprofessional groups within the organization, academic practice partnerships, and community partnerships.

    · Within collaborative partnerships may teach, coordinate, serve as liaison, and advise others concerning education and learning.

    · Promotes, encourages, facilitates, conducts and participates in research, evidenced-based practices (EBP) and/or performance improvement (PI) activities

    · Promotes and integrates the science of the nursing education specialty to continuously improve his/her practice.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    · Master’s Degree in Nursing, preferably in Nursing Education

    · 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse with at least 3 years in pediatrics (orthopedic experience a plus), and at least 2 years of experience as an educator

    · Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

    · Enjoys collaborating with a team and has a love for teaching

    · Excellent computer skills are a must. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the ability to navigate a patient electronic medical record and the internet are essential; Visio is preferred

    · Unencumbered Oregon Nursing License

    · BLS Certification, and PALS or ACLS (or completion of one of these within 6 months of hire)

    · BLS Instructor Certification (or obtain within 6 months of hire)
