    The Role

    CLFC is seeking RID-certified ASL Interpreters for educational services assignments in New York, NY. You will provide American Sign Language interpretation across classroom instruction, academic meetings, student support services, and school events, ensuring equal access to education for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students throughout New York State.

    What You Will Do

    • Classroom Interpretation: Provide ASL services in lectures, seminars, labs, and group discussions across K-12 and post-secondary settings
    • Academic Support: Interpret for one-on-one advising, tutoring, counseling sessions, and IEP meetings
    • School Events: Cover parent-teacher conferences, faculty meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
    • Preparation: Review subject matter, specialized vocabulary, and course materials in advance of each assignment
    • CDI Services: Provide Certified Deaf Interpreter services when required for DeafBlind or Deaf individuals with specialized communication needs
    • Collaboration: Work alongside educators, administrators, and support staff to ensure seamless communication access

    What You Bring

    • Required: Current RID certification (NIC, CI/CT, or equivalent national certification)
    • Required: Minimum 2 years of professional interpreting experience in educational settings
    • Required: Fluency in American Sign Language and English with strong understanding of Deaf culture
    • Required: Ability to pass a background check and meet state educational facility requirements
    • Preferred: New York State certification or licensure for educational interpreting
    • Preferred: Specialized vocabulary in STEM, legal, medical, or technical subjects
    • Preferred: CDI certification for DeafBlind or specialized communication assignments

    Compensation Details

    • Pay Rate: $62 - $75 per hour, based on certification level and experience
    • Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
    • Schedule: Flexible, with assignments available throughout the academic year across the New York metro area and statewide
    • Minimum Assignment: 2 hours per engagement
