The Role
CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking 2 RID-Certified Sign Language Interpreters for government services assignments in Grand Rapids, Michigan, supporting Kent County operations. You will provide professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation across a range of government service settings, ensuring Deaf and hard-of-hearing community members have full and equal access to county services, legal proceedings, public meetings, and administrative functions.
What You Will Do
- Government Services Interpreting: Provide ASL interpretation for county government offices, administrative hearings, public meetings, and constituent services
- Legal and Court Interpreting: Support legal proceedings, depositions, and court-related government functions requiring certified interpretation
- Public Health Interpreting: Facilitate communication in county health department settings, mental health services, and social services appointments
- Community Access: Ensure Deaf and hard-of-hearing residents can fully participate in public forums, town halls, and civic engagement opportunities
- Professional Standards: Maintain strict adherence to RID Code of Professional Conduct, confidentiality requirements, and government security protocols
- Documentation: Complete assignment logs, service records, and any required reporting accurately and promptly
What You Bring
Required Qualifications:
- Active RID certification (NIC, CI, CT, CDI, or equivalent national certification)
- Minimum 2 years of professional ASL interpreting experience
- Experience in government, legal, or community interpreting settings
- Reliable transportation to assignment locations throughout Kent County
- Must pass background check for government facility access
- Professional liability insurance (or willingness to obtain)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Michigan state licensure or registration for interpreters
- Legal interpreting certification (SC:L) or specialized legal training
- CDI credential for Deaf interpreter team assignments
- Experience with government or court interpreting protocols
- Familiarity with Kent County government services and local Deaf community
Compensation Details
