  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    • Interface with design engineering to review all injection molded design concepts for tooling feasibility and cavity optimization. Make recommendations to optimize part and tooling design.
    • Provide competitive quotes (cost, timing, cavitation, and press size) based on program needs.
    • Participate in engineering part and tool design reviews to reach a final product and tooling design that is capable of meeting customer requirements.
    • Kick off and track all new injection molded tooling, conduct tool design reviews with the tool shop, approve details of the tool design, and ensure that Sika molding standards are utilized.
    • Work with engineering, quality, and the tool shops to ensure that the tool can produce parts to print. Set up and attend molding trials; review tool and part dimensional layouts; make recommendations to correct any tooling/process discrepancies.
    • Assist process engineering in the setup, verification, and launch of all new injection molded tools.
    • Assist process engineering/production in the troubleshooting of current production tools. Determine, schedule, track, and confirm the results of the corrective actions implemented.
    • Input and maintain the history of all mold maintenance and repairs done on all assigned tools.
    • Continually develop and update the Sika tooling standards as a team with the tooling group
    • Find and implement state-of-the-art tooling techniques.
    • Participate as a member of the program launch teams to report and update all team members on tooling issues, timing, and cost
    • Must be able to monitor and track multiple tools on an ongoing basis from launch through production.
    • Complete all other tasks assigned by the Launch Director.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline desired; plastics technology focus strongly desired.
    • 2-3 years experience in design and development of plastic injection molding tools desired.
    • Knowledge of APQP preferred.
    • Experience with precision and multi-cavity tooling for the automotive industry preferred.
    • Excellent ability for internal and external relationships and communication is a must.
    • Ability to use CAD software for part and tool design reviews required.
    • 20-30% travel is necessary to observe tool trials.
