• Degree and 5+ years of data systems architecture within
• Experience with managing or influencing how to manage/grow a database, cloud technology (AWS heavy familiarity), SQL/Oracle or similar with vision for architecture/design
• Experience with developing and building reporting/query systems for different users ideally with clinical data

FULL DESCRIPTION:

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL COLLABORATE EXTENSIVELY WITH RESEARCH SCIENTISTS, CLINICAL DATA MANAGERS, DATA SCIENTISTS/ANALYSTS, AND VENDOR REPRESENTATIVES AND TAKE AN ACTIVE ROLE IN DEVELOPING AND ALIGNING DATA STANDARDS ACROSS THE COMPANY. THIS ROLE WILL PROVIDE THE THOUGHT LEADERSHIP, FACILITATION, ANALYSIS, AND DESIGN NECESSARY TO DEVELOP A ROBUST DATA AND INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE FOCUSING ON CLINICAL AND TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH DATA, WITH THE FLEXIBILITY AND SCALE APPROPRIATE VISION TO SUPPORT MULTIPLE CROSS-FUNCTIONAL BUSINESS UNITS AND SOLUTIONS. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BALANCE MULTIPLE PROJECTS, ANALYZE BUSINESS TRENDS AND STRATEGY, AS WELL AS CHANGE REQUIREMENTS TO GUIDE SOLUTION DECISIONS.  THIS IS A FULL-TIME POSITION AND IS LOCATED AT THE COMPANY’S HEADQUARTERS IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.

The selected candidate will further possess:

• Demonstrated success in designing and implementing highly available and highly scalable big data systems; 3+ years of experience in leading implementation of highly scalable data management systems required
• Experience with environments designed to support ingestion and processing of large Genomic, Digital, EMR, EHR, Omics, Imaging data sets coming from different data sources
• Demonstrated ability to partner with different business units & IT leads to understand business requirements, and design detailed solutions architecture that meet them
• 2+ years of experience in direct oversight of developers responsible for data warehouse, database and application development
• Experience across multiple big data platforms, ETL, data modelling, and business intelligence big data architectures
• Strong Experience in HL7/FHIR data standards, HIPAA, PHI, ISO, GDPR and other global healthcare compliance/regulatory requirements preferred

The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Partner with functional units & IT leads to understand and document the business and user requirements for an integrated data environment
• Be responsible for the overall design and implementation of architecture and solutions to support cross-functional needs
• Oversee developers and vendors contributing to the development of and operations within the data architecture
• Provide informatics solutions and services around data management and data curation to meet diverse business needs
• Co-lead data governance, standardization, and curation initiatives across the Company
• Contribute to the establishment of cross-functional partnerships that ensure data accessibility, quality, integrity, and standards
• Communicate strategies, ideas, goals and progress to the data management group, the development & clinical science groups, and IT Director
• Collaborate with both internal and external partners
• Work extensively and partner with research & clinical scientists, statisticians, IT, database specialists, and various operations managers across the company.
• Improve the overall quality of the enterprise data assets through the effective application of best practice in information architecture
• Reviews and approve information and data model designs with a focus on those areas influencing interoperability, analytics including compliance with the enterprise information model
• Ensure integration of project logical data models into the enterprise information model
• Maintain repositories for representing the data elements including the entities, relationships and attributes, the information flows, business/scientific glossary

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• 100% on-site work at corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA
• Occasional evening and weekend work will be required
