    Immediate opening for a Bioinformatics Engineer (Multiple Levels) our client, an “essential business”, located in Orange County, CA who possess:

    • B.S. to Ph.D. desired and 3+ years of combined academic and industry experience (1+ in industry)
    • Heavy knowledge of cloud-based systems, ideally AWS (data migration experience would be highly ideal)
    • Ability architect or develop database or software systems for scaling

    FULL DESCRIPTION: OUR CLIENT IS SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED BIOINFORMATICS SOFTWARE ENGINEER TO WORK CLOSELY WITH OUR BIOLOGISTS, BIOINFORMATICIANS, AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERS TO RECOMMEND AND UTILIZE THE BEST DATABASE ARCHITECTURE PRACTICES BASED ON THE DATA STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL NEEDS. THE BIOINFORMATICS SOFTWARE ENGINEER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING EXPERTISE ON DATABASE MODELING FOR EXISTING AND NEW DATABASES CREATED AND RESPONSIBLE FOR ADDRESSING DATABASE ISSUES, PROBLEMS, AND SOLUTIONS ON-PREMISES AS WELL AS THE CLOUD.

    The selected candidate will further possess:

    • At least 3 years working with relational databases
    • At least 3 years related software development for online applications or equivalent experiences
    • At least 1 year of cloud computing experience, preferably with AWS
    • Familiar with general biology, biological pathways, and genomics
    • Strong knowledge of basic and advanced database fundamentals
    • Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming concepts using an MVC web framework
    • Theoretical and practical knowledge with cloud computing
    • Knowledge and application of database normalization methods and rules
    • Experience with database modeling and database architecture
    • Proven ability to work with distributed systems
    • Relational database experience (example: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server)
    • Familiarity with databases implementation on the cloud such as AWS RDS (Relational Database Service)
    • Use ETL (extract, transform, load) best practices in the creation of databases
    • Knowledge and practical experience implementing data lakes
    • Understanding of when to utilize SQL versus NoSQL databases
    • Ability to read and write a variety of structured/semi-structured formats (example: XML, JSON, CSV, TSV)
    • Understand the consumption and production of web services (example: REST, SOAP, AMQP)
    • Navigate file systems and modify configurations for web services on Linux-based systems
    • Working knowledge of code repository best practices and distributed version control (example: git/Subversion)
    • Understanding of browser compatibility and screen limitations
    • Ability to participate in code reviews to detect bugs, analyze coding style, and to suggest best practices.
    • Ability to collaborate with System Architects, fellow Developers and Graphic Designers
    • Incorporate security in the cloud applications in accordance with company’s security guidelines

    The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

    • Responsible for oversight of database architecture, security, and to ensure it maximizes data integrity.
    • Analyze database implementation and methods to make sure they comply with company policies and any external regulations that may apply
    • Develop documentation for best database design practices
    • Support the maintenance and testing of existing applications
    • Provide troubleshooting and update of existing applications
    • Develop and test new features and tools of applications
