    Position Summary

    The Mechanical Engineer I position would be an entry level mechanical engineer position. The successful candidate would begin by working with a seasoned mechanical engineer. They would initially be responsible for assisting with parts of a larger design project including subsystem design, detailing, and overseeing manufacturing and assembly. This person would also be required to take on smaller design projects and execute them from design through finished assembly. This engineer would attend department design reviews and bring her/his knowledge and skills into others designs. Work can also include installing designed assemblies into battery manufacturing equipment, coating equipment, or vacuum systems, much of which is in dry rooms.

    Job Responsibilities/Duties

    • Design and integrate new and unique systems to support R&D, abuse and cell testing, and anode development.

    • Strong understanding of static mechanics theory and application

    • Strong understanding of dynamic mechanics theory and application

    • Strong understanding of heat transfer theory and application

    • Basic knowledge of engineering design iteration using FEA

    • Demonstrated understanding of design for manufacturing, tolerance stack up, GD&T

    • Demonstrated knowledge of bolted joint assemblies and weldments.

    • Experience with engineering documentation management such as DFMEA, BOM, design white paper, mechanical drawings.

    • Experience creating tests to validate design requirements.

    • Ability to work independently or within a small team when required.

    • Ability to source off the shelf components and hardware.

    • Provide equipment and engineering support to all departments.

    • Provide clear analysis and design criteria in engineering reviews.

    • Contribute to engineering design discussions for new equipment.

    • Provide appropriate systems analysis when required.

    • Understand and work safely around high energy batteries.

    • Take a project from concept, through design, to a completed assembly.

    Qualifications

    • Mechanical Engineering degree, or equivalent degree and/or experience.
    • Comprehensive knowledge best practice for mechanical design and analysis.
    • Working knowledge of Machine Shop practices and ability to make basic parts.
    • Understanding of battery construction and vacuum systems a plus.
    • Mechanic experience a plus (auto, motorcycle, home repair, machine shop, hand tools, power tools)
    • Proficient with Solidworks and PDM
