    (Specializing in Measurement & Instrumentation Development)

     

    Reporting to: Process Technology Group Manager

     

    Role Summary:

    The M&I Development Engineer will be responsible for developing and/or improving

    on-line measurement and instrumentation systems and applications in support of thin films and polymer manufacturing.This includes knowledge of and interaction with systems and applications hardware and software in both development and commercial phases on a daily basis.Strong people skills are necessary in order to function in a team-oriented working environment.

     

    Duties of the M&I Development Engineer will include support for existing on-line instrumentation systems which include beta gauge & gauge control systems, and web inspection systems.

     

    Essential Functions:

    • Design and lead projects related to measurement instrumentation for thin film and polymer manufacturing.Primary instrumentation responsibility: in-line thickness measurement systems; Secondary instrumentation responsibility: vision systems; ultrasonic proximity systems; and similar
    • Develop and implement new/customized instrumentation solutions where needed via in-house development or partnering with vendors
    • Lead teams for implementing instrumentation system project improvements
    • Communicate with equipment vendors
    • Communicate with process operators, engineers and management
    • Lead preventative maintenance events on in-line measurement system equipment
    • Respond to phone calls from operations for troubleshooting support
    • Serve as radiation safety officer for beta gauge measurement systems

     

    Requirements:

    • B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation or Control Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
    • Prior experience with plastic films in-line thickness measurement systems is beneficial
    • Mathematical array operations and linear algebra ability
    • Programming language skills: C/C++, Java, HTML
    • Profibus, OPC, Modbus, Control Net link skills are beneficial
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software suite
    • Knowledge of industrial data network communication and data storage
    • Ability to communicate and teach complex technical items to persons without a strong technical background
