Job Title: Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO)
Location: Lake Charles / Jennings Area, Louisiana
Position Overview: We are seeking a qualified and experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee and enforce safety compliance on active construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction safety, particularly with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant job site.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement and enforce site-specific safety and health plans
Ensure full compliance with EM 385-1-1 safety standards
Conduct daily safety inspections and hazard assessments
Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions
Maintain accurate safety documentation and reports
Coordinate with project management and subcontractors to ensure safety protocols are followed
Respond to and investigate incidents, implementing corrective actions as needed
Requirements:
Must reside in or near the Lake Charles / Jennings area
EM 385-1-1 (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) certification required
OSHA 30-hour Construction certification required
CPR / First Aid certification required
Prior experience working on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects
Pass a background check and drug screening
Strong construction background with proven safety oversight experience
Ability to work independently and enforce compliance on-site
Willingness to work occasional weekends as project needs require
