Position Summary
The SSHO will serve as the on-site safety lead, ensuring compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and all project-specific safety requirements. This role requires proactive hazard identification, enforcement of safety protocols, and maintaining a safe work environment for all personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-time, on-site safety oversight
- Implement and enforce the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)
- Conduct daily safety inspections and prepare reports
- Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA standards, and federal contract requirements
- Stop unsafe work immediately and implement corrective actions
- Coordinate with USACE and government inspectors regarding safety compliance
- Maintain accurate documentation of all safety activities and incidents
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience as SSHO on federal or military construction projects
- Certifications:
- EM 385-1-1 (USACE/NAVFAC 40-hour course)
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety
- First Aid/CPR/AED
 
- Strong knowledge of excavation, fall protection, confined space, and electrical safety
- Ability to prepare safety documentation and compliance reports
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects
- Familiarity with bridge work, stream restoration, and masonry repair
