    DESCRIPTION: Applications / Design Engineer Electrical / Conductive Cable Manufacturing SUMMARY Functions as a technical specialist or in a lead role. Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems. May provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineers. Responsible for technical oversight and review of project engineering work performed by external resources in support of the development and implementation of transmission line projects through the planning, execution and closeout phases of the project. Includes communicating technical requirements to external/internal customers. Will perform work as well as plan, direct, and expected to be able to supervise the work of other engineers and designers engaged in delivering the design and installation of new and modified transmission and distribution lines and towers. This position will be engaged in the preparation of transmission and distribution line specifications, bid documents and bid evaluations. You will assure the design is compliant with all applicable codes and regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position requires significant experience in electric utility transmission and distribution (T&D) line systems engineering and design. Specifically, we are looking for a Transmission Line Engineer to provide outstanding technical leadership to our team, engaged in transmission and distribution system for major utility clients. Performs all aspects of design for high voltage and EHV Overhead Transmission line projects including line routing, structure knowledge and line analysis. Knowledge of insulator and hardware selection, conductor wire selection and technical support for customer. Keenly focused on production of high-quality work and supports continuous improvement efforts. Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects. May have to review and provide feedback to lower level engineering work or assignments and serves as the responsible charge for a project. Actively coordinates with internal and external team members on transmission line projects for the world’s top electric utilities. Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work. Provides support to business development or pursuit activities. Serves as an overhead transmission line design technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams. Assists with performance management process, mentoring, recognition, and any corrective actions required. Lead and/or prepare the development of engineering evaluations for project work, including the development of feasibility and conceptual studies and project scope definition. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or a minimum of 5-year experience in T&D. WORK EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of common engineering application software, particularly such tools as PLS-CAD, SAG10, ETAP and knowledge and understanding of engineering standards such as NESC, IEEE and ANSI that apply to transmission design. The position requires experience in actual hands on design work, experience in preparing cost effective designs, knowledge and understanding of transmission engineering, including conductor selection, structure determination, plan and profile development, material takeoffs, etc. Demonstrated leadership experience in a technical group. Effective communications and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor a schedule to support engineering deliverables to support project development and support of Business Development group. Some travel required.
