    DESCRIPTION:  The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Systems Architect in the Information Technology Division. The Systems Architect will analyze system requirements and design solutions considering existing standards, rules and regulations. Also, the position spearheads the creation and implementation of new systems and the updating of existing systems. This position will be a member of our DRIVES implementation team with responsibilities including providing technical support for the DRIVES  environment as well as architecting and documenting solutions around the DRIVES environment, Additionally, responsibilities include support for development, participation in support of the DRIVES database environment, analyzing agency applications, interfaces, networks, programs, and operations, evaluating existing systems, and designing proposed systems/solutions.

    This position will be a dual location with time split between 1800 Century Blvd NE, Atlanta, GA 30345  and 2206 Eastview Parkway, Conyers, GA for the first phase of this project (est. 18 months). The final phase of the project will be exclusively at the  2206 Eastview Parkway, Conyers, GA location.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing information systems which will adequately support the enterprise.

    • Analyzes system requirements and ensures that systems will effectively integrate with current applications and infrastructure.

    • Participate in coordination with external vendors that provide support for hardware, network, databases, and applications.

    • Participate in configuration, implementation, and change discussions related to network components that effect systems.

    • Serves as a technical adviser on IT projects. Ensures that IT projects adhere to the industry and governmental principles, guidelines and standards.

    • Keeps up on industry trends and current technological standards and best practices.

    • Interacts and communicates effectively with internal and external customers and development teams to clarify business, operational, or technical requirements.

    • Defines in written documents solution requirements (availability, interoperability, portability, manageability, scalability, maintainability, security, monitoring, SLAs, KPIs, regulatory and legal compliance) based on business vision, best practices, and enterprise architecture direction. 

    • Assists with writing and communicating best practices, standards, and guidelines documents that support IT teams.

    • Participate in performance and capacity management/planning of physical and virtual servers.

    • Define and develop disaster recovery procedures.

    • Help define enterprise level application and service architecture.

    • Advanced knowledge of application programming, web and software applications, infrastructure and networking.

    • Advanced knowledge in enterprise system design and support processes.

    • Ability to conceptualize and articulate alternatives for problem resolution.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (ATTACH ADDITIONAL PAGES IF NECESSARY): 

    1. 8 years of experience with various IT hardware and software solutions, analyzing systems and requirements, and developing integrated complex IT solutions.
    2. Advanced knowledge of application programming, web and software applications, infrastructure and networking.
    3. 5 years of experience in architecting solutions in an environment using .NET with Oracle and/or SQL Server DBMS.
    4. Experience with Oracle’s Exadata hardware.
    5. Extensive knowledge supporting VB.NET applications in an environment utilizing Oracle and/or microsoft platforms.

  • Qualifications

     

    • Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
    • Proficiency with MicroStation/InRoads and GEOPAK.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively communicate thoughts and ideas to peers, senior staff and clients.
