Join the Slingers! Slingshot is seeking a passionate Interior Design Summer 2026 Intern to join our collaborative, purpose-driven studio in Des Moines. We're a smaller but mighty team of architects and designers dedicated to crafting meaningful, human-centered spaces that elevate everyday life and strengthen Midwestern communities. Our work spans interiors, architecture, and urbanism — always with a focus on simplicity, specificity, and real impact.

As a learning studio , we pride ourselves on providing hands-on, immersive experiences where interns are fully integrated into real projects — not just fetching coffee or filing samples. You'll work closely with mid- to senior-level interior designers and architects, contributing to exciting developments from concept to construction.

    What You'll Do

    • Assist with interior concept development: curate imagery, create mood boards, sketches, and renderings to bring stories to life
    • Prepare construction documentation, including floor plans, ceiling plans, elevations, finish plans, and schedules
    • Learn our design process and key software tools (ArchiCAD, SketchUp) while helping maintain our BIM library
    • Support business development through finish boards, presentations, social media content, and meeting preparation
    • Order material samples and maintain our interior design library (including meeting with manufacturer reps)
    • Potentially attend client meetings, design critiques, and team collaborations
    • Full-time commitment (40 hours/week) during summer 2026, with flexible start in May 2026

Who We're Looking For: Current Junior, Senior, or Graduate student pursuing a Bachelor’s (or higher) in Interior Design or a closely related field. The ideal candidate ("Slinger") brings:

    • Working knowledge of color theory, materials, and aesthetic principles
    • Exposure to design specifications, industry standards, and FF&E (furniture, fixtures, and equipment)
    • Understanding of space planning methodologies
    • Basic sketching and rendering abilities
    • Familiarity with construction documentation and procedures
    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Strong experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Enthusiasm for collaborative work, curiosity, and a desire to grow in a supportive environment

    What We Offer

    • 40 hrs work week
    • Direct involvement from leadership in day-to-day mentoring
    • Flexible Schedule with 9a-3p core hours
    • A true teaching studio with a collaborative, growth-focused culture
    • Relaxed dress code
    • Dog-friendly office
    • Beverages, snacks, and quarterly team events

If you're excited to contribute to vibrant, community-focused projects in a studio that values personal relationships, bold ideas, and meaningful design — we want to meet you!

To apply, please submit your resume, portfolio, and a brief cover letter about why a summer at Slingshot excites you.
