    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Working closely with the Sr. Director of Communications and Public Relations, the Communications Manager creates high-quality, compelling ACMG content for use across multiple channels and platforms including print publications, digital platforms and our very active social media channels; ensures written content resonates with target audiences; appropriately represents ACMG and follows all appropriate style guides; and manages a busy workload and adheres to all deadlines. Social media responsibilities include the development and maintenance of Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram editorial calendars, creating digital/social ads using Canva, daily monitoring of all social media channels, writing and responding to posts, comments and direct messages, and posting and sharing content including simple graphics and videos.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    CONTENT DEVELOPMENT - 75%

    • Serves as the primary editor/writer of the monthly ACMG in Action e-zine and assistant editor for The ACMG Medical Geneticist member news magazine.
    • Writes high volume of original content of various types (e.g. long-form pieces, news releases, blog posts, social media posts, website copy, ads, email messaging, graphics, and images, etc.) 
    • Interviews industry experts and uses other sources to research topics. 
    • Drafts, revises and updates content for the ACMG website as assigned. 
    • Develop reports and PowerPoint presentations as assigned.

    CONTENT MANAGEMENT AND OVERSIGHT - 10%

    • Edits, proofreads and improves content from a variety of ACMG and ACMG Foundation departments for publications and news releases.
    • Works with outside designers to oversee layout of various ads and publications.
    • Creates and oversees distribution of email communications.

    COMMUNICATIONS PLANNING AND DATA ANALYSIS - 5%

    • Builds and executes social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification.
    • Sets up, manages, analyzes and reports on campaign performance in Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter.
    • Uses tools to track, monitor and measure the success of content campaigns.

    ADDITIONAL - 10%

    • Other duties to support ACMG communications and public relations activities as required including acting as department head when Sr. Director is unavailable.
    • Plan and manage multiple PR and social media activities for our annual ACMG Medical Genetics Awareness Week.

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED

    • A minimum of 5-10 years of healthcare experience and medical communications required.
    • B.A. or B.S. required; Master’s degree preferred
    • Knowledge of medical genetics preferred.
    • Technical capabilities: Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook); exceptional and versatile writing, editing and proofreading skills; must have professional experience with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google, including content management and development, placement of ads, and collection and analysis of metrics data a plus; familiarity with Canva and Hootsuite strongly preferred.
    • Interpersonal capabilities: Collaborative, strong organizational skills; attention to detail; self-starter; ability to multi-task in a very fast-paced, high volume department under pressure.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of social media communications, marketing, and management required
    • Experience using email marketing solutions
    • Thoroughness, attention to detail and accuracy are paramount as well as the ability to take direction well and demonstrate excellent judgement.
    • Flexibility and ability to pivot amongst competing priorities as well as to work evenings and some weekends is required. Must be an excellent problem-solver, poised, creative and articulate.
    • Ability to maintain productive and professional working relationships with team members and supervise Communications Coordinator as necessary on various projects

    Additional Information

    ADA SPECIFICATIONS This is a largely sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see and lift small objects up to 20 lbs.  

    TRAVEL Ability to travel domestically occasionally, up to 10%.  

    BENEFITS AND SALARY This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary for this shall be commensurate with the candidate’s skill and experience. ACMG offers an excellent benefits package.
