    Job Description

    Our client is in search of a Head of Engineering to join their early-stage, venture-backed company addressing knowledge management in the industrial workforce. The ideal candidate will have proven experience building and delivering mobile-focused platform products and understands how to build scalable backend systems.

    As the first engineering hire, this role will cover substantial ground from working with our Product Manager on our product roadmap and resourcing, building the first version of our iOS and Android apps, architecting the backend system, and troubleshooting as needed.

    This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a small team and wants real skin in the game, and has experience with mature products and understands how to build things that last. We are looking for someone who has experience and wants to build a product and company from the ground up. We are especially interested in speaking with candidates who have experience in software and mobile applications with social media user experiences.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Act as the Chief Architect of the product and manage the internal and external development team
    • Architect, design, implement, test, and deploy our backend system
    • Take full ownership and responsibility for building, testing, releasing, and maintaining our iOS and Android apps
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues

    REQUIRED TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelors degree in computer science or similar; 7+ years experience or equivalent
    • Preferably a Masters in Computer Science or similar
    • Experience managing the development of high-quality mobile UI experiences with iOS or Android
    • Familiar with architectural decisions and tradeoffs involved in building back-end infrastructure for mobile- and web-based platforms
    • Solid understanding of database technologies such as SQL
    • Experience with analytics, testing, and crash reporting
    • Knowledgeable in current and emerging technologies and industry best practices
    • Familiar with mobile product and design life cycles in early startup environments
    • Ability to collaborate closely with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders, including developers, designers, product managers, and customers
    • Demonstrated experience leading engineering organizations through periods of rapid yet strategic growth
    • Strong interpersonal, organization, and project management skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience with React Native is a plus
    • Understanding and experience with machine learning and natural language processing is a plus
