As the ACCOUNTING MANAGER, you will…
This position is responsible for accurate financial accounting for SmithFoods Inc. and subsidiaries. The Accounting Manager works with almost all functional areas of SmithFoods to provide technical accounting guidance and support to help business leaders make well-informed, data-driven decisions. This position owns and prepares consolidated financial reports, is responsible for ensuring all accounts are reconciled timely and accurately, maintains and issues accounting policies, manages any financial audits, runs the capital process and is also responsible for certain financial controls. In addition, this position will assist with financial analysis related to the company as a whole. This is a high-profile position with many interactions at all levels of the organization. Excellent communication, a strong technical accounting background and good track record of personnel development and leadership are required skills for this position.
YOUR WORK MATTERS.
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING:
- Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial statement closing processes. Work with team to develop and maintain checklists, process documentation, timelines and controls to ensure smooth and error-free closing of the financial books and records
- Own the financial audit process, including working directly with outside auditors on engagement and managing the PBC listing and requests to meet agreed timelines and stay on budget
- Perform regular balance sheet and account reconciliation reviews to ensure accuracy of the financial statements
- Develop and maintain accounting policies
- Develop monthly reporting package to share with CFO regarding financial performance
- Responsibility and ownership of the General Ledger structure and maintenance as well as the Fixed Asset Sub ledger
- Work closely with outside accountants on Income Tax matters and responsibility for filing local returns not contracted to outside accountants
- Own the Capital Budget as well as monthly Capital forecast and reporting
- Oversee the Accounts Payable fuction
TREASURY MANAGEMENT:
- Manage day-to-day banking relationships, monitoring line-of-credit, cash control, company credit cards, reporting and reconciliation
- Own cash forecasting processes and controls
- Responsible for Accounts Payable function
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS:
- Work with Accounting and Finance staff to review the financial statements each month during the month-end close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- Review financial statement trending, account reconciliations and other related financial indicators to provide regular analysis to the business and to confirm accurate accounting transactions
ASSOCIATE DEVELOPMENT:
- Identify opportunities for growth and development with staff, including assignment of team/project leadership opportunities
- Develop cross-training/succession plan for team
- Continue to develop technical accounting knowledge and depth within team
OTHER:
- Provide project support as needed to others requiring accounting expertise/participation
- Other duties as assigned

- Experience leading and developing a team of associates
- Must have experience leading a monthly accounting/closing process including working with related software packages

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience in Accounting
- Experience leading a team of associates
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX, AS400 and Targit or Microsoft Power BI is a plus
CPA, CMA, MBA and/or other professional certification is highly preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this job the associate may be required to sit for an extended amount of time, work in a controlled office atmosphere and spend extending hours in front of a computer screen.
