Job Description
Family Law Firm in Vienna, VA looking for an experienced legal assistant who has experience with Virginia court systems and procedures. We are looking for someone with 2 to 5 years of experience working in the legal field (preferably in family law). The ideal candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
Taking new client calls.
Keeping assigned attorneys' calendars.
Drafting cover letters to clients, court, opposing counsel, and other third parties.
Drafting Praecipes, and other pleading and/or correspondence.
Mailing, emailing, faxing correspondence and/or pleadings.
Maintaining all case related documents in client files.
Creating/ maintaining pleadings binders and/or trial binders.
Maintaining electronic client files including scanning all documents that come in and/or go out on a particular case.
Scheduling appointments with clients.
Interfacing with client on various issues including but not limited to status of a case task, passing messages between client and attorney and providing client with copies of case documents.
Processing incoming mail for assigned attorneys.
Inputting and processing the legal assistant's own billable time, and processing time for assigned attorney(s).
Closing files and scanning documents into electronic filling system.
Arranging service of pleadings. If pleading posted, sending pleading again via email and certification to court that pleading was posted and sent via first class mail.
Notarization, if certified.
Covering receptionist duties, when needed.
Additional tasks, as needed.
