    Machine Shop Manager (Hagerstown, MD $95-110K)

    The Machine Shop Manager will lead, and direct the staff and processes, overseeing the day-to-day activities of our machining, saw, and welding operations. The role will direct team activities with the goal of manufacturing the best possible products on-time while maintaining a safe working environment, continuously improving processes, and developing employee’s knowledge and competency. Candidates must be flexible and able to respond positively to changes and challenges. They should be able to think outside the box to solve problems and willing to lead the manufacturing team to be focused on ensuring department goals are met. The ideal candidate will embrace the objectives and the culture of the company and can integrate them into daily decisions/actions consistently.

    Immediate Opening for a Machine Shop Manager in Hagerstown, MD, who can:

    • Take leadership of the workforce in a 2-shift environment.
    • Provide motivation, support, guidance, and constructive feedback to employees, developing and training them while building understanding of and alignment with company culture and goals.
    • Provide decisive leadership giving clear direction in everyday and pressure situations.
    • Handle time & vacation approval, hiring selections and decisions to discontinue employment.
    • Schedule machines and staff for maximum productivity.
    • Coordinate all labor and materials in the machine shop.
    • Identify and implement processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality.
    • Make recommendations on capital expenditure to improve capacity and quality.
    • Monitor productivity, utilizing charts to maintain maximum productivity.
    • Provide high quality parts delivered on time.
    • Planning labor and machine hours for optimum performance.
    • Perform other tasks as assigned.
    • 45+ hour work week on average.

    Qualifications

    • College degree in engineering preferred; appropriate work experience can be substituted.
    • 10+ years of experience in machine shop/manufacturing environment preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience in personnel management preferred.
    • Decisive leadership skills & problem-solving under pressure
    • Strong interpersonal & communication skills (both verbal and written)
    • Organization skills with strong attention to detail
    • Technical/computer skills (Excel, Word.) are required.
    • Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems required.
    • Previous experience in a high mix – low volume - fast paced facility.
