Position Summary:
The primary focus of a Summer Camp Instructor will be to teach Snapology programs. Summer Camp Instructors are asked to promote creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while educating students on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) concepts. Programs are conducted for children ages 3-14, although not all instructors are required to teach all age groups. This role requires internal collaboration and communication with Snapology leadership as well as representing the Snapology organization to parents & children with a high degree of professionalism.
Role & Responsibilities:
Facilitate Snapology programs for groups of up to 24 students through curriculum-guided activities
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment. All materials, lesson plans, & paid training is provided!
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of Snapology
Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies
Adequately prepare for each program by reading curriculum, watching training videos and/or participating in face-to-face training sessions
Present lessons in a fun and engaging way that promotes creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
Supervise full-day camp students during the break between camp programs
Handle inquiries from parents regarding Snapology programs
Encourage students & parents to enroll students in future Snapology programs
Participate in periodic Snapology training & staff meetings, as required
Collaborate with Snapology Leadership and support staff
Maintain professional manner in dress, personal appearance, and communication with students, parents, and community partners
Travel to various partner locations to run programs
Safely transport and store materials
Qualifications:
Must be available to work most weeks from early June to mid-August 2023
Criminal and Child Clearances including background checks and fingerprint scanning must be current (completed within the last 12 months) and submitted by candidate
2 or more years of experience working with children in a classroom or camp environment
Education degree or teaching experience preferred, teachers, pursuing a degree in education are encouraged to apply for this position
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with students, parents, coworkers and Snapology Leadership
Excellent time and classroom management skills
Comfortable working with LEGO® bricks and technology
Familiarity with coding and robotics preferred
Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
High School diploma or equivalent required
Driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and current insurance to transport materials required
First Aid & CPR training (required)
Position Details:
Pays up to $450 per week for half day camps or $900 per week for full day camps!
Instructors are paid a weekly flat rate per 1/2-day camp taught (Monday- Friday). The flat rate includes materials pick up and drop off, lesson preparation, student lunch supervision, early arrival to set up and clean up afterward. Weekly rates range from $300-$450 per weekly 1/2-day camp, depending on experience and qualifications.
This is a part-time position, with available hours and schedules adjusting after summer camps end. The summer camps run from May 28th- August 8th, with paid training in May.
Typical weekly summer schedule is one of the following: one morning camp Monday-Friday, one afternoon camp Monday-Friday, or one full-day camp Monday-Friday.
Instructors are not required to work every week of the summer; however, a commitment of a minimum of 6 weeks of camp is expected. To maintain a consistent environment for campers, instructors will be scheduled on a weekly basis and must be available Monday - Friday of those weeks.
Curriculum, materials, and paid training are provided.
Programs are offered at community partner locations across the greater Cedar Park area, including North Austin, Leander, Liberty Hill, Georgetown, and Round Rock. The ability to transport equipment, set up and/or arrange furniture in order to prepare the room for class is essential.
Reliable transportation, punctuality, and the ability to transport equipment is crucial.
Instructors are expected to arrive 30 minutes early to prepare the room for the day.
Appropriate county health guidelines will be followed in the event of any health concerns in the area.

Interested but lack teaching experience?
If you're interested but lack experience teaching or leading kids, we will train you as a teaching assistant initially and support you in becoming a certified Snapology Instructor.
