Soapbox Films is a creative agency and production company. We will be celebrating our 20th year of creating state-of-the-art, innovative, and award-winning productions that have made our audiences laugh, cry, scream and all the emotions in between. Some of our recent award-winning originals include Muppets Haunted Mansion (Disney+), The Old Ways (Netflix), and The Mortuary Collection (Shudder).

We have a rapidly-expanding Visual Effects & Graphics Division and we're looking for a talented VFX Artist to join the team to create some magic for our next show. Although we are not able to give the specifics of the project at this time, we can share that it will have a high-end feature film production value similar to a current blockbuster starring an incredible supersonic jet.

THE ROLE: The VFX Artist will be joining a fully-remote team of accomplished professionals and will be supervised and inspired by our Lead VFX Artist. This role will be working primarily on the hard-surface modeling of present-day/near-future aircraft and ships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create photorealistic, highly detailed, and believable aircraft and ship models from scratch or modify existing models
• Collaborate with the VFX team and communicate status of work, potential issues, and solutions
• Present iterations in a turntable format (including scale reference)
• Facilitate the making of photoreal texture maps
• Ensure consistency and quality of UV mapping and polygonal subdivisions
• Assist basic rigging, texturing, and animation of models
• Have fun doing what you do best!

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in high-end visual effects production
• Solid hard-surface modeling portfolio with outstanding examples of photoreal aircraft and ship models
• Knows and owns strengths – our VFX Artists can work with any software that helps them produce their best work - for reference, our favorites are Maya, Zbrush, Mudbox and Mari
• Self-driven and thrives collaborating online with remote team to share ideas and solve creative problems
• Excellent time management skills and meets tight deadlines with calm
• Ability to produce rapid iterations based on notes
• Positive, professional, thorough and excited!

TYPE OF ROLE, LENGTH OF PROJECT AND OTHER ITEMS OF NOTE:

This VFX Artist with expertise in ships and aircraft will be a temporary freelance role located in the U.S. and working West Coast hours.

The modeling work will last around 3-5 weeks full-time starting in August and completing in September. We are happy to consider someone who would like to do a part-time gig as a moonlight/side job.
