  • Responsibilities

    Academic and Experiential Objectives:

    The student intern will be required to handle and present him/herself in a professional manner, consistently arriving on time to assigned office hours, coaching sessions, and events. S/he will be expected to assist in the overall execution of a Soccer Shots season and will gain knowledge in the planning, scheduling, sales/marketing, customer service, and management side of the business. The student intern will also participate in instructing Soccer Shots sessions, giving him/her experience in coaching youth and working with parents. Assignments may be given to you according to your availability and location in Chester County.

    Obtaining Academic/College Credit

    This internship experience may or may not already be an approved academic credit internship with your school. Please make sure to notify us immediately if you are seeking academic credit through your school for this experience. With your help, Soccer Shots will work directly with your school’s registrar, academic advisor, or internship department to help you achieve academic credit for this internship experience.

    Responsibilities (can include but are not limited to):

    Leadership/Management:

    Assist in the overall execution of the scheduled Soccer Shots season

    Coach sessions throughout the season

    Video/photo projects

    Sales/Marketing/Customer Service:

    Run demos and attend promotional events

    Participate in business development with Program Director

    Correspond with center directors

    Participate in social media content creation and communication

    Administrative/Support:

    Create, print, and distribute registration forms and promotional materials

    Prepare and keep record of equipment sets and gear for instructors

    Assist in preparation of instructor training meeting

    Prepare direct mail and other marketing documents

    Prepare and distribute seasons prizes and certificates

    Data entry

    Professional Development:

    Attend new operator training, as available

    Attend Director Round Table discussions and staff meetings, as available

    Submit final report to Soccer Shots on experience

    Coaching

    Attends required coaches meetings.

    Knows lesson plan in curriculum prior to session.

    Maintains equipment in proper condition.

    Dresses in approved Soccer Shots uniform.

    Arrives early for each session to be fully prepared before a session begins.

    Brings attendance sheet to every session.

    Organizes children into approved-sized groups and does not miss any registrants.

    Ensures the safety and well-being of every child, first and foremost.

    Retrieves and returns children (per site process) for each session. No child is ever left alone.

    Follows proper on site protocol for each location, as provided by supervisor and/or site director.

    Conducts high-energy, fun, organized, 30/45-minute sessions

    Follows the proper weekly Soccer Shots lesson plan.

    Communicates in a timely fashion with supervisor about any changes, challenges, or important information.

    Records attendance online upon completion of coaching.

    Submits timesheet per payroll policy.

    Returns equipment and leftover supplies to supervisor upon completion of each season.

    Physical/work environment requirements:

    Functions in a temperature controlled office environment a portion of the time. Work requires ability to sit, stand and walk throughout an extended work day (8 – 10 hours); position requires use of fingers, hands and arms on a consistent basis for keyboarding and phone work; position may need to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion; excellent vision skills (with or without correction) are required. The standard office environment has moderate noise levels associated with computer equipment, customers and phone conversations. Position may occasionally have the need to be exposed to an inside/outside sports environment.

    Functions in an inside/outside sports environment a portion of the time. Work requires ability to run, stop, stoop, bend (a physical, exercise type regimen) in a minimum of 45 minute increments per session. Position requires use of hands, arms, legs and feet and may include lifting up to 50 pounds on occasion. Moderate gymnasium like noises are associated with this position as well as excellent vision skills (with or without correction.)

    Goals & Evaluation method:

    A performance evaluation will occur at the conclusion of the first term and at the conclusion of the internship placement. The evaluation will consider the following general areas of professional operations, and specific intern goals within each area

    Continuing formal and informal supervision will occur between the intern and the onsite supervisors. Clear and open communication will occur on an ongoing and as needed basis, at a minimum of 30 minutes per scheduled work day with site supervisors.

    Internship Structure and Compensation:

    The Soccer Shots internship will encompass a minimum of 180-220 hours over a 10-12-week period. The internship will include ten to twelve consecutive 15-20 hour (minimum) work weeks for the duration of the internship.

    During the first four weeks of the internship, the intern will be working closely with the Program Director on preparing for the upcoming season -- scheduling instructors, running demos, and promoting the season. Once the season starts, the student intern’s focus will shift to executing the program by coaching approximately 6-8 Soccer Shots sessions per week (sites and times TBD) and training, evaluating, and supporting other coaches.

    The intern will be compensated $10/hr.

    Internship positions are available for the following time periods:

    Winter Season—early January through mid-March

    Spring Season—early March through mid-May

    Summer Season—early June through mid-late August

    Fall Season—mid-August/September through November
