The Social Recreation Coordinator is responsible for enhancing the social, recreational, and emotional well-being of youth ages 8–18 at the Al Wooten Jr. Youth Center. This position plays a key role in creating a vibrant, engaging, and safe environment in the Center’s family room and common areas. The Coordinator will design and lead structured activities that promote fun, peer interaction, teamwork, creativity, and life skills. In addition, this individual will oversee the administration of the Center’s daily food service program and lead the planning and execution of special events.
Scheduled work time: M-F 2pm-6pm. Occasional weekends with notification
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement age-appropriate recreational, social, and enrichment activities for students ages 8–18.
Foster a welcoming environment in the family room, promoting positive social interaction, inclusion, and youth leadership.
Incorporate games, arts, physical activities, and cultural experiences into daily and weekly schedules.
Support activities that align with students’ physical, emotional, and social development.
Coordinate the daily food/snack distribution program, ensuring meals meet health and safety standards.
Track meal counts, maintain food records, and liaise with vendors as needed.
Support students during mealtimes and promote a respectful, clean, and safe dining atmosphere.
Plan, organize, and lead special events including holiday parties, student celebrations, themed activities, and family nights.
Manage event logistics, including setup, staffing, supplies, and post-event evaluations.
Collaborate with program staff to align events with the Center’s mission and goals.
Supervise students during structured and unstructured times, maintaining a positive and respectful environment.
Promote and model positive behavior, conflict resolution, and leadership among students.
Ensure all activities are inclusive, safe, and responsive to students' needs and interests.
Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, child development, or related field preferred.
Minimum 2 years of experience working with youth in a social, educational, or recreational setting.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to engage youth effectively.
Experience planning and leading youth programs and events.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse staff, youth, and families.
Must pass background check and meet food handler and health/safety requirements.
Working Conditions:
Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends as needed.
Some lifting, physical activity, and standing for extended periods may be required.
