Located in Houston, Texas, Solugen is currently scaling up its manufacturing facility to use its chemienzymatic process to manufacture bio-based chemistries for water treatment, agriculture, personal care, and other applications. Solugen currently has 100+ full time employees.

MISSION

This individual will report to the Analytical Senior Scientist and assist the Analytical team with experiments and analysis to support the organization's future R&D, production, and revenue goals. This role will be involved with testing samples from production (10KTA - Bioforge) and various R&D teams (enzymology, heterogeneous catalysis, strain development, formulations, process development) on various analytical equipment (HPLC, ICP, GCMS, etc.). He/she will ensure that all sample analyses adhere to strict standard operating and calibration procedures used in the laboratory. This is a hands-on role where the individual's initiative, laboratory prowess, and energy will make a substantial impact on the company.

OUTCOMES

Analytical Support:

• Assist with running samples from the various R&D groups on the HPLC, ICP, GCMS, etc. with fast turn-around times
• Troubleshoot equipment when necessary
• Perform a wide variety of technical procedures with minimal direction and supervision
• Assist with data analysis and deliver results to the appropriate team on a timely fashion
• Manage inventory of chemicals and consumables
• Support daily lab operations and ensure that the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced, proactively ordering supplies before inventories run low.
• Ensure proper disposal of laboratory waste
• Maintain electronic & paper records and follow protocol for storage

COMPETENCIES

• Master's degree in chemistry +2 years of relevant industry experience in analytical chemistry or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry with 3+ years experience as analytical chemist in a QA/QC or R&D environment  
• Good knowledge of laboratory analytical testing procedures and specific lab equipment required to perform quality testing
• Must be able to prioritize and multitask
• Ability to communicate well individually and in team atmosphere
• Computer skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Good verbal and writing skills

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

• Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry
• Required experience with instruments such as:
  • o ICP, HPLC, GCMS, FTIR

Good knowledge of analytical chemistry software e.g. Empower and ChemStation

High level of position ownership and engagement

Experience in the fields of Fermentation Technology and Catalysis is a plus
