Youth Media Intern Somerville Media Center - Somerville, MA 02143 Internship YOUTH MEDIA INTERNSHIP * JOB DESCRIPTION Somerville Media Center (SMC) is a vibrant electronic media maker-space that "exists to foster creativity, innovation and community expression through training, production resources and global distribution." SMC is home to Somerville Community Access TV (SCATV) Channel 3 and Boston Free Radio (BFR) and is a resource for content and training in the media arts with such marquee programs as Somerville Neighborhood News (SNN), its youth outreach programs, and numerous collaborations with community partners. Job Title: Youth Media Intern Supervised by: SMC staff Hours per week: 10 20 hrs/wk (flexible) Job grade level: Intern, Unpaid. Credit available Job Description Summary: Assist in the development and delivery of original youth media programming that engages youth in critical thinking and hands-on media skill-building. Content areas include but are not limited to photography, filmmaking, TV film and studio production, media literacy, audio production and editing, web design, animation, radio broadcasting/podcasting, etc. Programming may be delivered via structured afterschool programs, drop-in makerspace programs, community partnerships, in-school workshops, and additional formats as requested. This internship is an excellent opportunity to create and implement a cutting-edge portfolio of original, creative youth media curriculum for folks who are interested in pursuing a career in youth media arts education. Principal Responsibilities: * Work collaboratively with Youth Media Coordinator to develop original youth media programming * Deliver original, creative, engaging youth media programs effectively with diverse populations of youth * Participate in outreach and recruitment efforts * Engage in collaborative curriculum development and program evaluation * Complete training in order to operate SCATV cameras, audio, lighting equipment, and video editing software General Job Requirements: Some experience with video production, including camera, audio, lighting preferred. Some video editing with Final Cut Pro or Adobe Creative Suite Software preferred. Experience working with diverse populations of young people a must. Well organized, self-motivated, willing to learn and good communication skills required. Education and/or Experience: Video production and/or youth programming experience, organization and writing skills. Language Skills: English. Additional ability to speak Haitian Kreyol, Portuguese and/or Spanish a plus.
