A Michelin-starred Japanese restaurant group based in Manhattan, New York City is seeking a Sommelier.
This position is not limited to a specific restaurant; recruitment is conducted at the group level. The final assignment to the most suitable brand or restaurant will be determined based on experience and suitability through the interview process.
The group currently operates multiple brands in New York and plans to expand into Europe in the future. Candidates who wish to build a long-term career in an international environment are welcome.
In addition to managing wine programs, this role will also involve recommending sake that complements Japanese cuisine.
Job Description
Recommend wines and sake, and design pairings
Design pairings to match tasting menus
Provide table-side service and guest interactions
Manage wine and sake inventory, including ordering
Build and maintain relationships with vendors
Train and educate service staff
Create guest experiences that enhance brand value Final placement will be determined through the interview process.
Requirements Mandatory:
Sommelier or wine service experience in fine dining
Expertise in wine
English: Business level or above (able to serve guests in English)
Preferred:
Experience at Michelin-starred or high-end restaurants
Knowledge of sake and experience in recommending it
Certifications such as CMS / WSET
Experience with inventory management and wine/sake lists
Willingness to work at European locations in the future
Japanese language is not required.
