    Independent Electric's Counter Sales Representative is responsible for selling electrical supplies and equipment to customers in a retail environment. As a Counter Sales Representative, you will act as a team with our customers to understand their current projects, then suggest the best solutions to help them get the job completed successfully.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    • Greet and welcome customers.
    • Practice good interpersonal relations, using tact, courtesy, a positive attitude toward customers and co-workers, pleasant telephone etiquette.
    • Display merchandise, suggests selections that meet customers' needs and emphasize selling points such as quality and utility.
    • Recommend additional products related to customers' needs.
    • Handle difficulties with customers and coworkers with diplomacy and seek assistance when needed.
    • Resolve customer order problems and complaints promptly.
    • Acquire, use, and continuously develop personal technical knowledge of general and specialty merchandise items to assist customers and other company personnel.

    Required Skills

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Strong communication and presentation skills. Able to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
    • Mathematical skills including calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
    • Detail-oriented and able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • Work is sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 60% of the time.
    • Work may involve the operation of forklift, equipment such as pallet jacks and climb ladders; bend, stoop, lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

    Required Experience

    • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), required; an Associates degree is preferred.
    • 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
