    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY

    The paralegal reports to the Numotion’s Associate General Counsel, Litigation & Employment, and will assist in managing all aspects of the company’s litigation and pre-litigation with a focus on matter support, i.e. managing deadlines, handling discovery, tracking substantive matter developments; case investigation and support, and interaction with the business, in-house and/or outside counsel.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Responsible for assisting in-house attorneys with the management of the Company’s litigation matters from inception to resolution, including working with the Company’s insurers and third party claims administrator and managing outside counsel. Ability to negotiate with opposing counsel and resolve claims independently is critical.
    • Work with outside counsel and the business to develop case budgets and establish reserves and accruals.
    • Maintain litigation calendars and coordinate scheduling of events in the litigation process, such as witness interviews and preparation for deposition and trial testimony.
    • Manage the company’s relationship with its insurers and insurance brokers, including the claims notification process, working with insurance adjusters, and assisting with the annual loss run.
    • Coordinate the Company’s response to discovery requests, including working with e-discovery vendors and managing the document collection and review process, developing strategies to make the discovery process more streamlined and efficient, and managing litigation holds. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of e-discovery best practices and serve as a subject matter expert on e-discovery. Familiarity with the litigation hold tools in Office 365 is a plus.
    • Manage litigation files, including review of outside counsel and vendor bills, setting up electronic case files on the Company’s matter management and e-billing system. (Bright flag experience is a plus.)
    • Provide support to the claims department when necessary.
    • Assist with other areas of the Legal Department as needed. Flexibility and willingness to work on a variety of assignments outside litigation as needed is a must.
    • Provide support to the business on projects as needed.
    • Oversee and manage responses to subpoenas and other service of process as assigned.
    • Serve as liaison and point of contact with counsel, business units, and other departments and outside parties.
    • Design and implement operational systems within the legal department.
    • Familiar with legal research on-line tools such as WestLaw.
    • Draft documents for attorney review. Assist in and, where appropriate, conduct negotiation processes or represent the attorney in executive moderate legal matters.
    • Retain and monitor outside counsel regarding assigned projects and tasks.
    • Participate in meetings and committees as assigned.
    • Act as expert resource in specialty areas as assigned.
    • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
    • Perform other duties as necessary.

    Required Skills

    QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCIES:

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or one to two years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Paralegal certification required
    • 10 years of related paralegal experience with demonstrated litigation related experience. Experience working for both a law firm and in-house is a plus.
    • Demonstrated supervisory and/or project management experience
    • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
    • Must be able to work independently while functioning well in a team environment.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
    • Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Task-oriented with excellent sense of prioritization, highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and to work under pressure.
    • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to handle conflicting time demands and focus on task completion with little direction or need for supervisory follow-up.
    • Ability to handle highly confidential information discreetly and professionally.
    • Must demonstrate professionalism and keen sense of judgment at all times

    REQUIRED CREDENTIALS & TRAINING/EDUCATION

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or one to two years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Paralegal certification required
