    Sonnets Academy, a leading private preschool and infant care program, in Chicago, seeks part-time Early Childhood Spanish Teachers for each of its three locations. This position is 20-25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Mornings are preferred but the schedule can be flexible for the right candidate.

    The Early Childhood Spanish Teacher is responsible for the development and implementation of the Spanish program for students in the infant through Pre-Kindergarten programs. Language instruction at Sonnets Academy is taught by hands-on large and small group activities through art, movement, interactive games, music, literature, theater and dance. The Early Childhood Spanish program celebrates and embraces different Spanish cultures and a strong sense of community. The Early Childhood Spanish Teacher works closely with the Early Childhood Classroom Teachers and Directors to develop cross-disciplinary projects and activities that align with Sonnets Academy’s curricular goals. The goal of our Spanish program is to create a love of learning Spanish in children that will help build the steppingstones for life-long Spanish speakers.

    Requirements:

    Must be a native Spanish speaker or close to being a native speaker

    Must be able to work legally in the US

    Bachelor’s in ECE or related field preferred

    At least 2 + years experience in a preschool setting

    Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to grow and learn

    Be patient, warm, and energetic

    Be a team player who brings their knowledge to our organization

    Have a positive attitude and a good sense of humor

    Current First-Aid and CPR certification; evidence of Negative TB, physical exam, T-DAP, and MMR verification

    Completed full course of Covid-19 Vaccination - strongly preferred

    Musical awareness and skill and/or willingness to learn is a plus

    Job Description:

    Working with Sonnets Academy Directors to develop curriculum and lesson plans based on the needs, ages and ability levels of the children enrolled.

    Encouraging children to practice vocabularies that are taught through the use of roleplaying, dialogue, games, art, literature, and formal exercises.

    Assist children in accurately listening and speaking Spanish in the classroom

    Communicating frequently with children naming objects, actions, using who, what, when, where, why and open ended questions

    Provide monthly newsletter for families

    Supervising children at all times to protect the health and safety of all children

    Communicating appropriately and professionally with fellow staff and parents

    Assembling anecdotes documenting student progress

    Exhibiting behavior and classroom management consistent with Sonnets Academy’s philosophy

    Treating each child with respect and respond to the individual needs and learning styles of each child

    Adhere to the rules and regulations of Sonnets Academy as well as DCFS and all State Licensing Guidelines.
