    Khyber Pass Pub is hiring a Sous Chef for its Old City Philadelphia location.

    This is an opportunity to join an established, high-volume restaurant backed by a multi-unit hospitality group that emphasizes support, development, and long-term growth. The kitchen serves a consistent volume of guests and requires a leader who can balance execution, organization, training, and accountability while maintaining a positive team culture.

    The ideal candidate is a hands-on kitchen leader who enjoys coaching staff, maintaining standards, managing inventory, and supporting daily operations alongside the Executive Chef and management team. This is not a desk position. You'll be actively involved in service, prep, ordering, training, and kitchen leadership.

    • $55,000–$60,000 annually

    Schedule

    About the Role

    The Sous Chef supports all day-to-day back-of-house operations and helps maintain consistency across food quality, team performance, cleanliness, and execution.

    This position works closely with the Executive Chef and kitchen team to ensure smooth service, proper inventory controls, staff development, and adherence to food safety standards.

    We are looking for someone who can:

    • Lead calmly during busy service periods
    • Hold team members accountable while maintaining a positive culture
    • Support training and development of line cooks and prep staff
    • Maintain organization across prep, inventory, ordering, and production
    • Communicate clearly with both kitchen and management teams

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations
    • Lead and support line cooks, prep cooks, and kitchen staff
    • Maintain food quality, consistency, and presentation standards
    • Train, coach, and motivate team members
    • Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory controls
    • Assist with scheduling and labor management
    • Monitor food costs and product usage
    • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
    • Support prep production and service execution
    • Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen
    • Participate in fish and meat fabrication as needed
    • Work collaboratively with front-of-house and management teams

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 2 years of kitchen leadership experience
    • Previous Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager, or comparable leadership experience preferred
    • Strong inventory management and purchasing experience
    • Experience with ordering, receiving, and product management
    • Advanced knife skills
    • Fish and meat butchery experience preferred
    • Strong food safety and sanitation knowledge
    • Ability to train and develop kitchen staff
    • Experience working in a high-volume restaurant environment
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
    • Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly bend, reach, and stoop
