    Job Description

    We are looking for a qualified Full-time **** Laboratory Manager or Veterinary Laboratory Manger to undertake a variety of laboratory procedures in a clinical setting. You will be handling sensitive equipment to analyze animal samples and/or substances.

    The ideal candidate must have experience working with animal samples. He/she will be well-trained to maintain safety conditions and will be passionate in doing work that makes things move forward. The goal is to optimize lab procedures and succeed in producing reliable and important results.

    Duties include:

    • Oversee the day to day operations at the lab
    • Handle customer service
    • Work with the Laboratory Director on marketing aspect of the lab
    • Oversee staff including training
    • Process blood samples including the ability to read a manual differential
    • Perform and interpret Urinalysis
    • Perform and interpret fecal flotations
    • Log and distribute incoming samples of materials
    • Follow established procedures and regulations
    • Notify proper personnel when a known spec is out of compliance, and send all production results to the QC department
    • Document activities legibly in notebook(s) before summarizing them on lab report sheet
    • Calibrate/standardize instruments when and where needed
    • Maintain a clean uncluttered work area
    • Attend all required safety training and follow all safety policies and procedures
    • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Proven experience as Lab Technician, prefer management experience (someone who has previous experience with animal samples)
    • Experience marketing a laboratory a plus
    • Experience in operating electrical and nonelectrical laboratory equipment
    • Ability to read manual differentials, perform Urinary Analysis, experience with microbiology, and ability to detect intestinal parasites – REQUIRED
    • Ability to stand/move for long hours
    • Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems
    • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
    • Degree in animal science, biology, chemistry, or relevant field – Preferred
    • Will be able to present information through oral or written communication effectively.
    • Maintain and foster interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.

    Schedule: Monday through Saturday

    Job Type: Full-time (35-50 hours a week) flexible hours

    Pay: Salary based on experience ($55,000 and up)

    ** SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS**
    + Ability to sit or stand and work at a computer for long periods of time.
    + Ability to be confident around animals (i.e., dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc. Candidate to confirm species treated with practice leadership for additional clarity.)
    + Client needs and work volume may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job. This position may require special working hours, including working weekends, evenings and/or holidays.
    + Must have mental capacity and processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
    + The noise level in the work environment is moderately high. Ear plugs will be available upon request.
    + Job requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform required duties while working.
    + Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
    + Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate other equipment as required.
    + Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    + Hospital teammates are routinely exposed to a variety of animals that may bite, kick or scratch, and on occasion, may be exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological or zoonotic hazards and/or medication/controlled substances.
