  • Responsibilities

    OBJECTIVES

    The maintenance technician is responsible for maintaining the school facilities and repairing any problems when they are discovered. The maintenance technician is required to perform a wide range of repair and upkeep tasks around the school's facilities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performing routine maintenance around the school's facilities such as fixing structural damage, repairing walls, etc.
    • Touch up painting in office spaces and classrooms
    • Installation of decorative items, office materials and classroom materials
    • Repair and maintenance of restroom and breakroom plumbing fixtures, including clearing trains by means of plunger or snakes
    • General labor, such as carrying, stacking, organizing materials used in and around the school's facilities
    • Debris and trash removal as needed
    • Minor repairs of both office and classroom furniture
    • General cleaning of both interior and exterior spaces using appropriate cleaning devices and solvents
    • Miscellaneous handyman work requiring the limited use of hand tools
    • Cleaning roof drains, air vents, registers and radiators
    • Replacing lamps and cleaning light fixtures
    • Replace ceiling tiles and needed
    • Replace floor tiles and needed
    • Performing other duties as directed

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum high school or equivalent
    • Minimum of 2 years maintenance or handyman experience. Experience in school or college environment preferred.

    ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES & PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to perform medium to heavy work involving sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 75 pounds and climbing ladders and stairs.
    • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform mechanical, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and other building repairs and maintenance work.
    • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including mechanic tools, carpenter tools, electrical tools, plumbing tools, cleaning tools, etc.\
    • Ability to move objects, occasionally requiring exertion of considerable force.
