    ROV/HYDROGRAPHER ENGINEER INTERN

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Under the direct supervision of the ROV Manager, or ROV Supervisor, the ROV/Hydrographer Engineer Intern will assist with a variety of tasks related to operating and maintaining remotely operated vehicles, reporting and general survey support such as land, dredging and hydrographic surveying. This position will encompass both office, and field experience to provide exposure to both technical, and administrative duties. Travel to and from jobsite locations is required. 

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist with remote operated vehicles (ROV) operations
    • Learn to troubleshoot basic electrical problems associated with ROV
    • Assist with data processing and reporting
    • Assist with the launch and recovery of the ROV system
    • Maintain good housekeeping in and around ROV work area
    • Assist with determining the position and elevation of important features and boundaries in survey areas using precision hydrographic systems, GPS technologies, total stations, and levelling instruments
    • Setup, calibration and troubleshooting of dredge positioning, land and hydrographic survey systems
    • Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their precision
    • Assist with performing field hydrographic surveys collecting bathymetric and other data
    • Provide field data to be processed to compute quantities, create charts, and reports
    • Report of bathymetric conditions, quantities and other pertinent data to colleagues and supervisors for review and direction
    • Collect, assemble, review and report production related materials and values
    • Verify the precision of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
    • Prepare data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited university program working towards a degree in ocean engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or other related program at the time of their internship, as well as having completed their sophomore year
    • AutoCAD experience preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Excellent verbal, written, telephone, email, and presentations
    • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

    • Work will take place around water; working on small vessels and barges off and near shore; including near or on moving and vibrating equipment
    • Work in confined spaces, kneel, jump, run, work while lying on stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands
    • Ability to remain outdoors for long periods of time in various seasons and conditions
    • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, ride, or work from a barge, pier, vessel, etc.
    • Ability to sit, stand, kneel, squat, push, pull, etc. for varying amounts of time
    • Ability to lift and carry 50 to 100 pounds
    • Ability to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including, but not limited to, respirators and fall protection
