    Job Description

    Southern Development & Construction, Inc (SDC) was established 1994 and is a growing private contractor concentrating in complete site development services (underground utility, earthwork, and paving) in the Central Florida area for subdivisions, apartments, commercial and public projects.

    SDC is looking to add a CFO/Financial Controller to our team. Ideal candidates will work collaboratively with the management team while overseeing the company's financial growth. This is a senior-level management position requiring honesty and integrity and the candidate will report directly to the President and Executive Management Team

    The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following: managing the several accounting functions, preparing and analyzing financial statements, preparing and monitoring the budgeting process, financial analysis and reporting, assisting the Executive Team in finance, insurance, bonding and banking relations, job cost reporting and projections.

    To qualify for this job the candidate should have construction accounting experience with an emphasis in heavy equipment and job costing. Other key responsibilities:

    • Partnering with the CEO and other senior leaders on operational and strategic issues as they arise; providing strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections.
    • Develop and promote a framework to drive financial accountability across the organization; provide timely and meaningful analyses and reporting to operational leaders.
    • Administration of taxation planning and compliance, including federal, state/local, as well as sales and use.
    • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
    • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
    • Maintains the general ledger.
    • Oversight of construction insurance and surety bonding and other elements of risk management.
    • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
    • Develop and monitor policies and procedures within General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and corporate guidelines to ensure sufficient cash flow, reduce operating costs, and increase revenues within a multi-company, project-based environment.
    • Advise on contract negotiations from a financial impact perspective.
    • Maintain external relationships with banks, auditors, and third-party vendors.
    • Calculations of Work on Hand schedules, Work In Progress and gain fade analysis.

    SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

    • Must have proven experience as Controller or CFO equivalent in a professional services or construction organization.
    • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
    • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or MBA, preferred.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of project-based / percentage of completion (POC) method of accounting.
    • Experience with View Point, Spectrum, or Dexter Chaney Accounting Software and HCSS software preferred.
