POSITION SUMMARY

Prepares highly accurate and detailed estimates and compelling proposals for mechanical building systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Process) for technically challenging projects, with or without fully engineered documents.  Coordinates work with suppliers and subcontractors, prepares detailed piping system estimates, coordinates work with other members of the estimating team, and communicates with clients. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Attend project walk-throughs and work with operations team to formulate a pre-bid execution strategy. 
• Analyze drawings and use applicable software to perform material take-offs for detailed estimates and provide unit cost pricing. Ensure potential issues with estimates are discussed with manager.
• Fill-in-the blanks to provide complete systems. Work with in-house engineering staff to challenge proposed design to develop cost savings strategies. 
• Partner with Lead Estimator or Chief Estimator to finalize bid. Present bids to Project Executives and Project Managers.
• Generate reports and interpret them for Project Review. Transfer information into final review format and build final estimate for review.
• Participate in client interview meetings to discuss project, and to present our scope of work and execution strategy.  
• Stay current with best practices and share information with team as necessary.
• Train and mentor less-experienced Estimators.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or trade school or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
• 5-15 years Commercial HVAC and Plumbing building construction industry experience.
• Field experience highly preferred.
• Ability to work with minimal oversight.
• Ability to present well to clients and build trust and confidence.
• Design/ build experience is a plus.
• Energy Services experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of local codes and local subcontractors is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Strong ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
• Strong ability to read and understand specifications and drawings.
• Strong knowledge of construction costs and principles.
• Ability to translate concepts and information into images; applies design principles.
• Strong drafting skills.
• Strong Excel and Word skills.
