    POSITION SUMMARY

     

    The Corporate Counsel will partner with the Vice President, General Counsel in providing legal support to all business units throughout Southland.   The ideal candidate will be an expert at learning a business and building relationships to become a trusted advisor to the organization. 

     

     

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

     

    • Provides consultation to business units on a broad range of construction related disputes resolution and claims, including payment disputes, mechanics lien, bond, and stop notice claims, disputed work, and delay and disruption claims.
    • Interfaces directly with internal clients, providing timely legal advice in a decisive manner that enables the company to achieve its business objectives consistent with the company’s risk tolerance and industry best practices.
    • Interprets contract terms, assess business and legal risks to minimize loss and liability and communicates such to management and other internal clients.
    • Drafts letters relating to contract administration and other issues for project teams to send to subcontractors, clients and other third parties.
    • Develops, reviews and manages implementation of corporate policies and procedures.
    • Reviews and negotiates complex legal agreements and other documents.
    • Updates and creates templates and form contracts for routine transactions.
    • Manages outside counsel where appropriate on particular matters.
    • Develops and provides training to employees on key legal issues.

     

     

    WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:

     

    • Graduate from accredited law school with a JD degree
    • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, construction industry preferred
    • Member in good standing of at least one state bar
    • Creative, innovative team player with positive attitude and excellent communication and interpersonal skills who displays discretion and sound judgment in all legal matters
    • Strong research, drafting, negotiating and analytical skills; must be detail-oriented and highly organized
    • Excellent oral communications skills; ability to communicate effectively in presentations and express complex strategies in an organized and articulate manner
    • Must be responsive and flexible to a variety of business needs, able to manage multiple priorities, and adapt quickly to change
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries or correspondence from regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
    • Ability to effectively present information to senior management
    • Construction industry experience highly desirable
