    POSITION SUMMARY

     

    The Project Accountant is responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process including categorizing, recording, analyzing and monitoring costs and billings associated with a large construction project. This position also assures vendor compliance in order to manage project risk. This role is assigned to a large construction project, working closely with the Project Manager to assure timely and accurate accounting and risk management throughout the project life cycle.

     

     

     WHAT YOU'LL DO:

     

    • Coordinate all aspects of job costing process. Produce and analyze job performance and profitability through job cost tracking reports. Ensure financial integrity of project reporting through analysis of weekly and monthly job costs reports. Perform financial analysis of project costs versus budget.
    • Support the project manager on contract compliance and reporting. Evaluate and provide accurate project financial information and recommendations in a timely manner to project manager. Assist in preparation of status reports and maintain accurate project status and budget information in ERP.
    • Satisfy contract compliance requirements including certified payroll and wrap up (OCIP / CCIP) insurance.
    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash receipts. Compile, prepare and analyze monthly project billings per contract requirements. Resolve outstanding payment issues with general contractor. Forecast cash flow, track performance and recommend measures to improve the same.
    • Assure internal control processes and compliance. Manage vendor and subcontractor compliance with insurance, lien waivers, change orders, retention and W-9s to mitigate project risk.
    • Assure billings are compliant with contractual definition of cost. Play an active role in supporting external project cost audits.
    • Ensure project users are able to effectively use ERP and related systems for planning, recording and managing projects and financials. Provide training as needed to ensure users understand processes and IT systems related to their financial transactions.
    • Research and resolve difficult accounting discrepancies and irregularities in a timely manner.

     

     

     WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent preferred
    • Five years of accounting experience preferred; 3-5 YEARS OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECT EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS
    • You'll need to have experience with project billings and be able to manage billings for multiple projects at a time
    • You'll need to have experience reading contracts, sub contracts and purchase orders
    • You'll need to have an understanding of insurance and compliance and how it relates to a project
    • Experience creating reports and compiling and analyzing data; strong analytical experience
    • Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills; excellent interpersonal skill, ability to communicate effectively at all levels
    • Able to maintain strong client relations and provide good customer service
    • Proven ability to effectively prioritize work, meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
    • Ability to analyze and resolve straightforward issues
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
    • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize advanced accounting systems, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc. required.
    • Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
    • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
