    The Division Accountant is primarily responsible for the fundamental aspects of Southland’s financial recordkeeping including recording financial transactions, managing accounts and account reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position also provides a high level of support to both internal departments and external customers.

     

     WHAT YOU'LL DO:

     

    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, subcontracts or payroll.
    • Establish and maintain accurate and appropriate union employee and vendor records to ensure data integrity and currency.
    • Compile financial information for monthly and quarterly financial reporting requirements.
    • Conduct regular account reconciliation for assigned area to assure records are in agreement and accurate.
    • Research and resolve straightforward accounting discrepancies and irregularities in a timely manner; elevate more complex issues for resolution.
    • Support users in effective use of ERP and related systems for planning, recording and managing projects and financials.
    • Respond to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner.

     

     WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

     

    • Basic accounting knowledge
    • Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure.
    • Able to analyze and resolve straightforward issues. Elevate more complex issues for resolution.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
    • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize ERP system, computerized accounting systems, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. required.
    • Able to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment.

     

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience preferred.
    • Three to five years of accounting experience with payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable preferred.
