Watch your engineering designs come to life! As a Design Engineer I at Southland Industries, you'll experience the excitement of working on design-build and design-assist projects in healthcare, education, biotech, mission critical, commercial and entertainment markets. You’ll work hand in hand with our model coordinators, estimators, and trade staff through all aspects of a project to create a design that is practical, efficient and cost effective. You’ll also have access to internal teams using the most innovative practices in virtual construction design (VDC) and computational fluid dynamics, along with just-in-time feedback from the field.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

• Work with a team of experienced design engineers to create whole-building HVAC system designs are buildable, cost effective and energy efficient.
• Play a crucial role in conceptual design for specific projects and represent the company as a design professional at project team meetings.
• Implement LEAN design build principles for our customers.
• Create just-in-time designs and deliverables to support the estimating and sales process. Perform calculations for projects like heating/cooling loads, and friction loss, and determine equipment selection, and pipe and duct sizing.
• Visit project jobsites and partner with the field for just-in-time feedback on compliance with construction documents and resolution of design issues during the construction phase.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL: 

• Excellent working knowledge of HVAC and plumbing design, building codes, types of equipment utilized in the industry, and system operations. We’re design, build, mechanical and plumbing - it’s what we do!
• Strong mechanical design background with knowledge of CAD Software.
• BS in Mechanical Engineering with up to years of experience. P.E. License is preferred.
