The Criminal & Family Law Paralegal will play a key role in supporting our attorney through drafting legal documents, managing case files, and maintaining excellent client communication. This role requires exceptional writing skills, strong organizational abilities, and a deep understanding of legal processes in both criminal and family court.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal Drafting & Documentation

• Draft a wide range of legal documents including:

  • Criminal motions (e.g., motions to suppress, discovery motions)

  • Pleadings and affidavits

  • Family court petitions (e.g., divorce, custody, support)

  • Settlement agreements

  • Subpoenas and discovery responses

  • Client declarations and case summaries

• Edit and proofread documents for accuracy, clarity, and legal sufficiency

• Conduct legal and factual research as needed to support case development

Client Relations

• Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing updates and answering questions with professionalism and empathy

• Assist clients with completing legal forms and gathering necessary documentation

• Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to clients' circumstances, particularly in family law cases

Case Management

• Organize and maintain case files, both physical and electronic

• Track deadlines, court dates, and attorney schedules

• Coordinate with court staff, opposing counsel, and third-party vendors as needed

• Ensure timely filing of documents with appropriate courts

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of paralegal experience in criminal and/or family law preferred

• Exceptional legal writing and proofreading skills are a must

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, legal practice management systems (e.g., Clio, MyCase), and court filing systems

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in client-facing roles

• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in a fast-paced environment

• Paralegal certification or degree in legal studies preferred
