    Electrical Engineer

    Location: Fort Worth, or Houston, TX

    Overview:

    The Electrical Engineer will report to the Regional Engineering Manager and will be responsible for steering engineering projects by approving electrical engineering packages for construction projects in the utility, large commercial and industrial sectors. The Engineer will have strong experience with low & medium-voltage power distribution and base building design (i.e., cable tray design, lighting, fire alarm, and emergency system design). Experience designing electrical systems for installation in hazardous area classifications (for example Zone 20/21, 22, etc.), ground mount solar and battery storage systems is strongly desired.

    What will you be doing as an Electrical Engineer at Spark Power?

    • The primary role of an Electrical Engineer specializing in system studies is to perform power system studies using EasyPower, SKM or ETAP. These include Short-Circuit Analysis, Protective Device Coordination, Arc Flash Studies, Load Flow and Harmonics studies.
    • Provide arc flash hazard mitigation recommendations to improve equipment and personnel safety of our client.
    • Perform Ground Grid System Design & Analysis for new construction or substation upgrade projects.
    • Assist in developing protection philosophy and protection system scheme and design set
    • This position requires interfacing with clients, owners, consultants and construction crew and therefore strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
    • Responsible for working independently under general direction and will progress to carry out non-routine tasks of substantial variety and complexity.
    • The successful candidate will require a sound understanding of related electrical principles and practices.
    • Responsible for the analysis, decisions and recommendations needed in connection with technical problem-solving.
    • Promote quality service to ensure employee, customer and supplier satisfaction.

    Major Duties Include:

    • Perform Short Circuit, Coordination & Arc Flash studies using ETAP or EasyPower. Perform site data collection when required.

    • Perform Harmonics & Power Factor Correction Studies.

    • Perform Ground Grid Design & Analysis

    • Generate settings file for IEDs from manufacturers including SEL, GE, ABB, Basler AND Siemens

    • Read and interpret electrical AC & DC schematics, AC three-line, logic diagrams and SLDs. Inspect, test, operate and troubleshoot AC & DC control and protection wiring schematic.

    • Be familiar with industry-specific codes and Standards (OESC, IEEE, and NETA).

    • Create or Modify Single Line and Three Line Drawing using AutoCAD.

    • Be safety conscious and have the willingness to learn Electrical Lockout/Tag-out procedures and gain Electrical Safety Awareness.

    • Exercise due diligence in the care and operation of corporate assets.

    • Carry out such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Engineering Manager.

    Do you have the Spark? Here's what we're looking for:

    • Electrical Engineering Degree
    • Minimum 5 years of experience performing arc flash and other system studies
    • Registered with PEO as a Professional Engineer or MIT
