JOB TITLE : Teacher, Learning Disabled
TYPE OF POSITION : Certified
REPORTS TO : Building Principal
POSITION PURPOSE : Teaches elementary and secondary school subjects to students with neurological problems in learning by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
Plans curriculum and prepares classes and other instructional materials to meet individual need of student, considering state and school requirements, physical, emotional, and educational levels of development.
Confers with parents and administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other to develop educational programs of students.
Instructs students in academic subjects.
Creates learning materials gearing to each student’s ability and interests.
Instructs students through the special educational strategies, techniques to improve sensory-motor and perceptual-motor development, perception, memory, language, cognition, social and emotional development.
Works with students to increase motivation, provides consistent reinforcement for learning, continuous assessment of level functioning, and continues feedback to students of all learning activities.
Works with parents and staff to develop skills in dealing with student’s learning impairment, may work as a consultant, and teach in the self-contained classroom.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Appropriate certification as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
Ability to communicate effectively with groups of students and parents.
Skills in human relations.
Ability to plan and organize; good work habits.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, and school staff.
Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board.
