  • Responsibilities

    The Special Education Resource Room Teacher develops, implements, and monitors Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with varied disabilities. They adapt general education curricula, provide specialized instruction in one-on-one or small group settings, and collaborate with parents and specialists to support academic, social, and emotional growth. Key duties include assessing student needs, maintaining compliance records, and managing classroom behavior.

     

    Pay: $40.00/hr - $55.00/hr (negotiable)

    PTO: 2 weeks, accrues.

    Holidays: 6 paid holidays - Memorial Day is the next upcoming holiday.

    Work Options: W2 or 1099

    Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision through BCBS - partially contributed into if you choose W2. There will be costs on your end.

    Snow Days: These are unpaid. For contract positions, you normally get paid for the hours you work. (Until/or the school converts you to a direct employee)

     

    Core Responsibilities and Duties

    • IEP Development: Design, implement, and review Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's specific needs.
    • Instructional Adaptation: Modify and adapt general education curricula to meet diverse learning needs, providing specialized instruction in academic, social, and life skills.
    • Assessment & Monitoring: Evaluate student progress, maintain accurate data, and adjust instructional strategies to meet goals.
    • Collaboration: Work with parents, general education teachers, psychologists, and therapists to coordinate services.
    • Classroom Management: Implement behavioral management protocols and create a supportive learning environment.
    • Supervision: Mentor and supervise paraprofessionals/teacher assistants working with students.
    • Transition Planning: Prepare students for transitions between grade levels and for post-secondary life.

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education.
    • Licensure: MI teaching license/certification.
    • Knowledge: Expertise in special education laws (IDEA), assessment tools, and instructional strategies for disabilities (e.g., autism, learning disabilities, emotional disorders).
    • Soft Skills: High levels of patience, compassion, communication, and adaptability.
