    Position Overview:
    We are seeking a passionate and creative Early Elementary- Special Education Teacher to join our inclusive, multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children from diverse developmental backgrounds and align with Indie’s neurodiversity-affirming practices. The Elementary/Special Education Teacher will focus on fostering learning through play-based, child-led activities, while creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for all learners.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Play-Based, Child-Led Instruction and Support

    • Plan and implement engaging, play-based activities that promote learning, creativity, and developmental growth.
    • Foster social, emotional, and academic skills while respecting each child’s unique developmental trajectory and pace.
    • Use neurodiversity-affirming practices to create inclusive learning opportunities tailored to the strengths and needs of each child.
    • Support foundational skills such as communication, problem-solving, and self-regulation through hands-on and interactive experiences.

    Classroom Management and Environment

    • Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and exploration.
    • Use positive behavior support strategies to guide interactions and promote a sense of community.
    • Support children with daily routines such as meals, transitions, and toileting in a respectful and developmentally appropriate manner.

    Collaboration and Teamwork

    • Work closely with BCBAs, SLPs, OTs, and other team members to align classroom activities with each child’s developmental goals.
    • Participate in regular team meetings, contributing observations and ideas to support individualized learning plans.
    • Collaborate with fellow educators to design and adapt curriculum to meet the needs of all learners.

    Parent/Caregiver Collaboration

    • Build strong relationships with parents/caregivers to ensure open communication and a shared understanding of each child’s progress.
    • Provide updates on classroom activities and developmental milestones, fostering a collaborative partnership with families.
    • Empower parents/caregivers with strategies and resources to support learning at home.

    Professional Development and Inclusive Practices

    • Stay informed about the latest research, methodologies, and neurodiversity-affirming practices in early childhood education.
    • Advocate for and implement inclusive practices that celebrate neurodiversity, disability, and cultural diversity.
    • Engage in ongoing professional development to continually enhance your teaching strategies and understanding of child development.

    Qualifications:

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Special Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Experience working with young children in a classroom or therapeutic setting.
    • Alignment with neurodiversity-affirming practices and a commitment to inclusive, play-based learning.
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
