  • Responsibilities

    Summary of the Job: Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. Assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to orthopedic surgical patients after recovery period is complete until discharge to home or transition of care to next level. Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Licensing required. Ratio is 4:1 nursing. This is a PRN position for our day shift.

    Essential Functions

    Direct and supervise less skilled nursing/health care personnel, or supervise a particular unit on one shift.

    Admit patients to unit after surgery and recovery period complete. Formulate, implement, and carry out plan of care for post-surgical patients while on the patient care unit.

    Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.

    Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.

    Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in patients' conditions.

    Administer medications/treatments as per physician's orders.

    Assess the needs of individuals, families and/or communities, including assessment of individuals' home and/or work environments to identify potential health or safety problems.

    Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.

    Consult with institutions or associations regarding issues and concerns relevant to the practice and profession of nursing.

    Engage in infection control programs, risk programs, and other hospital related committees: when asked to do so.

    Instruct individuals, families and other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention related to discharge teaching and preparing patients for their transition of care to next level at discharge form hospital.

    Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.

    Prepare rooms, equipment and supplies, and ensure that stock of supplies are maintained.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Physical Requirements:

    The position requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping and at times running. Any work load exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance. The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment on supports, push beds throughout the hospital, and perform external cardiac compressions. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.

    Qualifications:

    Education and Experience

    Degree or Formal Training: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

    License, Certificate or Registration:

    Current LA State Licensure or Multi-State Licensure

    BLS Required

    ACLS Required
