    Position Overview

    This position is a professional Licensed Practical Nurse position which functions under the direction of the department charge nurse with reporting responsibilities to the Director of Surgical Services when applicable. The Pre-Admissions LPN works in collaboration with medical assistants, nursing colleagues, and other personnel to prepare patients and records for procedures to be performed at Specialists Hospital Shreveport.

    This position is Monday - Friday day shift, no Holidays or weekends.

    Essential Job Functions

    Assembling patient charts, checking for adequate dates on all chart documentation.

    Records patient and testing information.

    Performs routine tests as ordered by medical professionals.

    Cleans and restocks department lab areas.

    Takes medical histories; data entry into EMR flowchart.

    Collection/preparation of lab specimens.

    Draw blood specimens.

    Perform 12-lead EKG.

    Work as part of a health care team to assess patient needs.

    Answer phones.

    Greeting patients reporting for pre-operative lab work.

    Data entry of physician lab orders.

    Contact patient primary care physicians for lab/EKG results when applicable.

    Batch & receive labs through interface.

    Review lab results; communicate abnormal results to physician office; document chart.

    Forward all lab results to MRI/Pain departments.

    Educate/instruct patient on upcoming procedure.

    Call patients as needed to verify procedure times.

    Performs related work as required.

    Requirements

    Current LPN State Licensure.

    Use of knowledge of medical terminology.

    Current BLS.

    Use of sanitation practices in healthcare setting.

    Follow infectious materials procedures.

    Able to maintain extensive standing, moderated sitting and bending.

    Physically able to perform CPR.

    Able to lift a minimum of 15# of equipment.

    Other Skills/Abilities

    Use of interpersonal communication techniques.

    Computer skills with emphasis in Microsoft Office Programs.

    Organization and time management without direct order.

    Knowledge of team building and dynamics.
